Industrial First Aid Requirements and Courses. Where the Employer has a contract with a customer that requires the Employer to provide an employee with a First Aid Certificate, such employee will receive a premium of seventy-five percent (75%) of the amount specified in the contract between the Employer and the customer for that certificate: (a) The Union and the Employer agree that First Aid Regulations made pursuant to the Workers' Compensation Act shall be fully complied with. (b) Where the Employer requires an employee, or where the employees are currently performing first aid duties in addition to the normal requirements of the job, the cost of obtaining and renewing the Industrial First Aid Certificate shall be borne by the Employer, and leave to take the necessary courses shall be granted with pay. (c) Employees required to possess an Industrial First Aid Certificate and who are designated to act as the First Aid Attendant in addition to their normal job responsibilities shall receive the following allowance on the basis of the Class of certificate which they hold. -- Industrial First Aid Certificate, Class A - $.50 per hour; -- Industrial First Aid Certificate, Class B - $.40 per hour; -- Industrial First Aid Certificate, Class C - $.30 per hour. (1) In order to meet the requirements of Clause 21.7(a) above, the Employer will designate in order of seniority from among those employees holding an appropriate Industrial First Aid Certificate to act as the First Aid Attendant in addition to the normal requirements of the job. (2) Where no employee within the work group possesses an Industrial First Aid Certificate, the opportunity to obtain a Certificate will be offered to employees within the work group in order of service seniority, provided the employee can meet the requirements of the WCB regulations to undertake the training in order to obtain an Industrial First Aid Certificate. (3) In the event that the procedures outlined above do not meet the requirements of Clause 21.7(a), the Union will assist the Employer to meet their obligations by approaching employees in the work group on behalf of the Employer. (4) Failing Clause 21.7(d)(3) above, the Employer may require the most senior employee within the work group who can meet the requirements of the WCB regulations to undertake Industrial First Aid training in order to obtain a Certificate.

Employees designated to act as the Industrial First Aid Attendant in addition to their normal job duties will receive monthly allowance while on approved leave with pay of up to ten (10) days or while on vacation leave with pay. Where the Employer has an additional requirement for a First Aid Attendant on a temporary bask, then provided the employee acts as the First Aid Attendant for a of ten work days in any month, shall receive the full monthly allowance. In order to meet the requirements of above, the designate in order of seniority from among those regular employees holding an appro- priate Industrial First Certificate to act as the First Aid Attendant in addition to the normal requirements of the job.
Industrial First Aid Requirements and Courses. (a) Provided that an employee’s work location requires a first aid certificate, and provided that the employee is in possession of a relevant and valid first aid certification, then any and all employee(s) at that location will be compensated for their first aid certificate as per the first aid premium rates noted in (e) below. (b) Compensation will occur regardless of the numbers of employees who possess the relevant first aid certificate at a particular work location. (c) All employees being compensated for their first aid certificate will be expected to perform first aid duties as needed/requested. (d) ABSBC will compensate employees for time and/or training fees as it relates to a required regulation and/or an operational need and ABSBC will generally be prepared to pay for the time, and/or fees, and/or related costs for first aid training. However, employees may be expected to pay for the time, and/or fees, and/or related costs of any first aid training in some circumstances. Payment for training fees and/or the time to attend training will not be unreasonably withheld, nor will it necessarily be provided by ABSBC when sufficient first aid coverage already exists in a given location. The ultimate discretion for payment of time and/or fees rests with ABSBC management subject to the basic principles in this paragraph. This does not prohibit employees from obtaining a first aid certificate by paying for any training fees and related costs themselves and doing the training on their own time. Should employees obtain a first aid certificate on their own time and at their personal expense, they will still be compensated as per 18.02(a), 18.02(b), and 18.02(e).
