Non-Instructional Workload. 1. Faculty shall provide seven (7) hours per week or equivalent on a semester basis or its annual equivalent in student advisement and/or college and/or community service as determined by the President or the President’s designee consistent with Article XIII (Evaluation).
2. Student Assistance/Advisement A faculty member shall be responsible for advising 18 students assigned by the President of the College or the President’s designee. A unit member may schedule student advisement time during the unit member’s office hours. It is understood that the administration has the obligation to assist the unit member in contacting student advisees and that the administration cannot determine the scheduling of this advisement time.
a. Each faculty member shall hold a group meeting with that faculty member’s advisees at the beginning of the academic year and shall be available to meet with each advisee at least once each semester and at such other reasonable times as requested by the advisee. If in the judgment of the President of the College or the President’s designee after consultation with the faculty member the number of students should be more than or fewer than eighteen (18), the faculty member’s non-instructional workload may be adjusted.

3. Office Hours
a. Each faculty member shall provide such hours on campus (off campus at an instructional site, if approved) to assist students in the students’ courses and to provide student advising service.
b. During the academic year, faculty members shall maintain at least four (4) posted office hours per week on at least four (4) days. Office hours shall be scheduled in accordance with the following procedure:
1. A faculty member shall submit a preferred office hours’ schedule to the President of the College or the President’s designee at the commencement of the academic year.
2. The President of the College or President’s designee shall either approve or disapprove the schedule.
3. In the event the President of the College or designee shall disapprove the schedule, the faculty member shall be given an opportunity to review and discuss their preferences with the President of the College or the President’s designee.

Non-Instructional Workload. For the purpose of this Article, “non-instructional workload” means a Chair or non-teaching assignment, which is recognized as distinct from 14.1(a).
Non-Instructional Workload. The full-time non-instructional workload for tenured and tenure-track bargaining unit members on a 9-month appointment shall be nine (9) non-instructional workload units (NIWLUs) per academic year and twelve (12) NIWLUs for those on 11- or 12- month appointments. The expected percentage of effort assigned to categories of activity will be addressed in the annual Faculty Objectives Plan and approved by the supervisor and College Xxxx. The assigned distribution of labor in each category of activity may vary over time during the year and the percentages should therefore be understood as a guide to the totality of the appointment.

For non-instructional faculty, the professional work year is comprised of both accountable (1026 hours) and professional (342 hours) time for a total of 171 days x 8 hours = 1368 hours. Based upon mutual agreement with the immediate administrator, non-instructional faculty may annualize these hours.
Non-Instructional Workload. 1) Other non-teaching IUCs may be assigned by the VP of Instruction with the agreement of the faculty member. Any assignments that are funded through an external source may be paid at the rate of pay as described in part 5 of this section. Work on non-contracted days may be paid monthly within the payroll cycle in which the work has taken place. This assignment must be documented as a part of the workload and provided to the Faculty Association and the Human Resources Department.
2) In order to effectively maintain standards for their programs the Dental Assisting Program Administrator shall receive 4 IUCs per term, and the Nursing Program Administrator shall receive 7.5 IUCs per term. The Dental Assisting Program Administrator and the Nursing Program Administrator shall fulfill all of the duties of Department Chair for their respective Departments. Consideration shall be given to Oregon State Board of Nursing recommendations to increase the workload rate.
3) Department Chairs No faculty member shall be required to serve as Department Chair. The members of each department shall select a member from their ranks. The Office of Instruction shall be notified of the selection for the next academic year by June 1. The VP of Instruction will have the final right to approve Department Chairs. Annual appointments function during the contract period from September 1 to June 30. Appointments are renewable if so desired by the department involved. Although the VP of Instruction retains the final decision-making authority in all of the cited areas, the College recognizes the value of having Department Chairs involved in maintaining high standards of instruction, in scheduling classes, managing budgets, and assessments. A list of job duties for Department Chairs will be developed by the Department Chairs in concert with the Office of Instruction and upon agreement with the BMFA negotiating team will become Addendum D. Each department chair, with the exception of Nursing as the terms of their compensation is spelled out in Article 19.C.2, shall choose to receive 3 IUCs of release time or the equivalent overload rate for each term of service. This choice shall be documented each term by memo from the Human Resources Department to the employee. Department chairs shall be paid throughout each term of work at regular payroll intervals.
