Workload of Full-Time Faculty. A. Faculty workload shall consist of: 1. Instructional workload, which includes: a. teaching in both traditional and non-traditional learning modes; b. instructional preparation; c. assessment of student performance. 2. Non-instructional workload shall consist of: a. student assistance/advisement b. office hours; c. college service, which includes: 1. serving as advisor to student activities; 2. serving on governance, ad hoc, college standing committees, system-wide task forces or committees, or labor-management committees; 3. preparing grant proposals; 4. participating in college, division, department or other related college meetings and/or activities; 5. participation in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, including recruitment. 6. serving as a department chair. d. college recognized community service, provided that such service is not compensated by an outside funding sources; e. professional development activities, which include: 1. related graduate study; 2. related in-service training; 3. research and other college recognized contributions to a faculty member’s area of competence; 4. participation in college recognized professional associations, including teachers’ organizations.

B. Instructional Workload 1. The standard faculty instructional workload shall be thirty (30) units of instruction per year with no more than three (3) preparations per semester and no more than five (5) preparations per year. This standard is not intended to be a fixed, absolute maximum of 30 units of instruction per year, but is intended to achieve greater uniformity in the system with 30 units being the target norm. Any significant variation above the norm could subvert the purpose of the standard; provided further that faculty teaching only didactic courses with more than 31 instructional hours per semester and faculty teaching other than only didactic courses with 34 or more instructional hours per semester will receive an adjustment in non- instructional workload. All such adjustments shall be made in accordance with Article XII, Appendix A of the Agreement. A unit of instruction shall mean per week: a. one (1) fifty (50) minute lecture or seminar; b. one and one-quarter (1 1/4) hours of laboratory instruction; c. one and one-quarter (1 1/4) hours of clinical instruction; provided that the effect of the implementation of this ratio shall not be considered as a violation of the standard of 30 units; d. one and six tenths (1.6) hours of i...

B. Instructional Workload 1. The standard faculty instructional workload shall be thirty (30) to thirty two (32) hours over the academic year beginning in Fall Semester of each year. With no more than three (3) preparations per semester and no more than five (5) preparations per year for “load” and as many additional preparations for overload as determined necessary by the college. For the purpose of this article, a preparation will consist of each independent, non-stacked, non- duplicated course offering and all its pertinent parts (laboratory, clinical, etc.) 2. If the situation arises where course cancellations bring an instructor/professor below 30 credits, other duties can be assigned in order to maintain full time employment load. Such duties will be preferably of a teaching nature but could include non-instructional duties 3. Giving full-time instructors and professors a full teaching load will be given priority over assignments to annual faculty or part-time instructors.   • Full-Time Nurse is a Nurse who is hired to a position on a regular or temporary basis to work the work period described in Article 7.00 of this Agreement.
