Out of Grade Pay. An employee covered by this Agreement who is directed to and does perform substantially all of the duties and responsibilities of a higher rated job within the bargaining unit shall be paid at the higher rate or classification consistent with his own tenure for all such time from the first day of the assignment. The Employer agrees that it will make such assignments for not less than an employee's full work day. Such payment shall be made on the next regular payday or as soon thereafter as is possible, but in no event later than the pay period following the pay period in which the payment was earned. The time limits for acting into higher rated jobs shall not exceed one hundred eighty (180) days, except where a regular incumbent is on leave of absence, in which case the time limit for acting into such position may not exceed one (1) year, and no individual employee can act up into that position for more than ninety (90) days. The time limits may be extended by mutual agreement of the parties. If the one hundred eighty (180) day limit is extended to one (1) year due to a regular incumbent on leave of absence or by mutual agreement of the parties, individual employees shall not act into higher rated jobs for more than ninety (90)days per employee. To the extent that the Employer continues to require the performance of the duties of the higher rated job beyond the time limits set forth herein, the position shall be treated as a "permanent vacancy" within the meaning of Section 14.9 of this Agreement and the Employer shall post and fill the job as a "permanent vacancy" subject to the applicable provisions of that Section.

Out of Grade Pay. 10.1 Engineers and Firefighters working in a position higher than their grade will be compensated at the next grade of pay after the first hour. Captains and Engineers working in a position lower than their grade will be compensated at the highest grade of the position being filled, i.e. if a Captain who is not a paramedic is working out of grade for an Engineer, the Captain will be compensated at an Engineer step 4 level while filling that position subject to the prior approval of the Fire Chief or his/her designee.
Out of Grade Pay. Any employee covered by this agreement that is temporarily designated at the discretion of the Director of Public Works or his/her designee to assume the duties and responsibilities of a higher rank or position for periods of greater than five (5) working days, shall receive the pay of such higher rank or position.
Out of Grade Pay. Employees whose permanent position is not working at the water plant shall receive three dollars ($3.00) per hour added to their regular hourly base wage rate when performing work at the water plant on weekdays and four dollars and fifty cents ($4.50) per hour added to their base wage rate when performing the work at the water plant on weekends.
Out of Grade Pay. If a Private is assigned by the Chief to Station II to temporarily cover for a Lieutenant, that Private will be chosen from a list of members determined by the Chief to be eligible through the Officer in Training program, the details of which have been defined by the Chief, and will be compensated with a stipend of $50.00 for a 24 hour shift or $25.00 for a half shift. Privates serving as Fire Alarm Superintendent, Mechanic, Clerk and EMS Coordinator shall continue to receive specialty pay as referenced in section 3.5 of the contract when temporarily assuming the rank of Lieutenant, however they will not be paid the Officer in Training stipend in addition to their specialty pay. If a temporary promotion to Lieutenant is required for more than 30 calendar days, that member will be promoted from the established eligibility list for promotion to Lieutenant. If the employee was serving as Fire Alarm Superintendent, Mechanic, Clerk and EMS Coordinator any special designation pay as referenced in section 3.5 of the contract will cease when Lieutenant pay is implemented. Members may be required to switch work groups for this temporary period of time. When a Captain is out, whether by illness, injury, or vacation, and the absence does not create a need to pay overtime; the Lieutenant will be moved from Station II to Headquarters and become shift commander. The Lieutenant will be compensated with a stipend of $100.00 for a 24 hour shift and $50.00 for a half shift. If a temporary promotion to shift Captain is required for more than 30 calendar days, the Chief has full discretion as to whom s/he will temporarily promote. The promoted officer will be paid at the Captain’s rate while acting as the temporary shift Captain. Members may be required to switch work groups for this temporary period of time. When an officer is designated by the Chief of the Department to act as Officer-in-Charge of the Department for a period of not less than 24 hours, during the absence of the Chief, s/he shall be paid additional compensation in the amount of $50.00 per day for such period with the stipulation the Officer-In-Charge reports to the station for a minimum of 2 hours per non-holiday weekday to perform necessary administrative work and staff oversight. Such additional compensation shall not be included in calculating the overtime rate of pay for an officer so designated. Out of Grade Pay. When a Sergeant is assigned as the Patrol Supervisor of a shift and does not report for duty on that shift for any reason including vacation, days off, illness, absence, etc., a Sergeant is called back to work or held over. When a Lieutenant is assigned as officer in charge of a shift and does not report for duty on that shift for any reason, including vacation, days off, illness, absence, etc., the Sergeant assigned as Patrol Supervisor will perform the duties of the O.I.C. When a Sergeant is assigned to a shift and does not report for duty on that shift for any reason including vacation, days off, illness, absence, etc., a patrolman regularly assigned as a desk officer or a regular patrolman who fills in as desk officer in the latter’s absence of the senior patrolman in their absence, who works in place of the Sergeant, who does not report as above, shall receive out-of-grade compensation for each hour worked for the period the supervisor was assigned to work. Such compensation shall be at the first step rate of the Sergeant’s pay range which is higher than the employee’s rate.
