PAID DUTY. 20.01 Paid duty may be allowed at the discretion of the Employer on the following basis:
(a) an employee may make application in writing to the Detachment Commander or Section Manager permission to perform paid duty, however, in emergent situations verbal approval may be given and confirmed afterwards in writing. Paid duty performed on a continuing basis to meet a specific situation occurring on a regular basis need not be approved in each individual instance, and the Detachment Commander or Section Manager may give a standard (or blanket) approval in such situations.
(b) while engaged in authorized paid duty, an employee shall be deemed to be in the service of the Employer.
(c) paid duty shall be assigned on a fair and equitable basis at each work location, and each employee shall be given an opportunity to work paid duty. The method of assigning on a fair and equitable basis shall be decided at the local level after consultation with the employees.
PAID DUTY. 19.1 The Chief of Police shall allocate paid duties, as defined in Article 1, Section 8, to the members on a fair basis. When a constable works a paid duty, he shall be paid at the rate of time and one half a first class constable's hourly rate with a minimum of four (4) hours. Where, in the opinion of the Chief of Police, it is necessary for a Sergeant to act in that capacity on an authorized paid duty, the Chief of Police shall notify the person requesting the paid duty personnel and the Sergeant shall be paid at time and one half his hourly rate with a minimum of four (4) hours.
19.2 If a paid duty is cancelled within 24 hours of the time of commencement of such paid duty, a payment equivalent to 3 hours at regular rates, shall be paid by the applicant.
PAID DUTY. 22.1 “Paid Duty”, is duty performed by a member apart from their regular duty, at the request of and paid for by individuals, corporations or other organizations and sanctioned by the Chief or the Chief’s designate.
22.2 “Paid Duty” shall be voluntary and shall be distributed as fairly and equitably as possible among those members of each unit willing to undertake such duties.
PAID DUTY. An Hour of Service shall be credited for each hour for which the Employee is paid, or entitled to payment, for the performance of duties for the Employer or an Affiliate. These hours shall be credited to the Employee for the computation period or periods in which the duties are performed.
PAID DUTY. Each Employee shall be credited with one Hour of Service for each hour for which the Employee is directly or indirectly paid, or entitled to payment, by the Employer for the performance of duties. Such Hours of Service shall be credited to the Employee for the Computation Period during which the duties are performed, irrespective of when payment is made.
PAID DUTY. (a) Paid Duty is duty performed by a civilian member apart from his/her regular duty, at the request of and paid for by individuals, corporations, or other organizations, and sanctioned by the Chief or his/her designate.
(b) Paid Duty shall be voluntary and shall be distributed among those civilian members willing to undertake such duties as fairly and equitable as possible. Paid Duty may only be performed by civilian members who are capable of the assignment and have completed their basic training and are, or can be, assigned to work alone.
(c) The rate to be paid for Paid Duty will be one and one half (1 1/2) times the hourly rate of a first class classification.
PAID DUTY. An Hour of Service shall be credited for each hour for which the employee is paid, or entitled to payment, for the performance of duties for the Employer or an Affiliate. These hours shall be credited to the employee for the computation period or periods in which the duties are performed or, if different, to the computation period or periods in which the employee is paid for such hours; provided, however, that no hours will be credited to the computation period or periods in which the employee is paid for such hours unless the Hours of Service to be credited are in connection with a period of no more than thirty-one (31) days that extends beyond the computation period or periods in which the duties are performed.
PAID DUTY. Paid duty at paid special events will be at a rate equal to the employee’s regular hourly rate for events where professional paramedic services are provided. Paid duty events are not counted towards seniority.
PAID DUTY. 16.01 Subject to the approval of the Chief of Police, members of the Police Service may volunteer for paid duty while off duty provided the member:
a. holds a rank of 4th Class Constable and has passed their coaching period or higher;
b. is fit for regular patrol duties; and,
c. is not working modified or restricted hours of work at the time of volunteering which would conflict with the paid duty opportunity.
16.02 When an officer works a paid duty, the member shall be paid at the rate according to the Thunder Bay Police Service Paid Duty Contract. Where, in the opinion of the Chief of Police, it is necessary for a NCO to perform the paid duty assignment, that member shall be paid at the rate according to the Thunder Bay Police Service Paid Duty Contract (Sergeant or Staff Sergeant) for a minimum of four (4) hours.
16.03 If a paid duty is cancelled within 24 hours of the time of commencement of such paid duty, a payment equivalent to a minimum of (4) four hours at regular rates to the officer who is scheduled to perform that assignment.
PAID DUTY. Where the Employer from time to time provides event coverage on a contract basis, and where the Employer secures payment pursuant to said contract to cover such costs (i.e. sufficient funds to cover wage costs at time and one half), such coverage will be offered on a voluntary basis at a rate of time and a half to off-duty full-time qualified employees in order of rotational seniority. If no full-time employee accepts the shift, it shall be offered to part-time employees as per Article 13.
