Serious Illness in the Immediate Family. Five (5) days without loss of pay shall be allowed each year as a family leave for serious illness in the immediate family which shall be defined as the certificated employee's spouse, parent, or dependent child as that term is defined by the Internal Revenue Service. This leave shall not be deducted from the accumulative personal sick leave record of the employee. When absence of more than two (2) days at one time is required under this regulation, a physician's certificate may be required.

Serious Illness in the Immediate Family. In the event of serious illness in the unit member’s immediate family, (spouse, child, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, parent-in-law, grandparent-in- law, or any person residing with the unit member as a part of the family), a unit member may use up to 30 days of accumulated sick leave. Following the exhaustion of the days listed above, a unit member shall be granted an extended leave of absence without pay of up to one (1) year for the purpose of caring for a seriously ill member of the unit member’s immediate family (spouse, child, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, parent-in-law, grandparent-in-law, or any person residing with the unit member as part of the family). Upon written request by the member, the Board may also grant additional leave without pay for these purposes.
Serious Illness in the Immediate Family. Employees shall be granted during a school year up to twenty (20) days of accumulated sick leave in any one (1) school year in case of serious illness or accident requiring hospitalization of a member of the immediate family which requires the presence of the employee, as certified by the attending physician.

Serious Illness in the Immediate Family. Leave of absence with full pay shall be granted for serious illness of Administrator’s immediate family living in the same household with the Administrator, and mother and father, whether or not they are living in the Administrator’s household. The total allowance under this provision shall not exceed two (2) working days annually during the period of this Agreement.
Serious Illness in the Immediate Family. 11.1 In the event of critical illness in the immediate family as listed in Article 12, but excluding sister-in-law, brother-in-law, mother-in-law, and father-in-law, an employee shall be entitled to receive up to five (5) days absence with pay.* Notwithstanding any past practice to the contrary, critical family illness shall normally be defined as a situation in which the family member is seriously ill to the extent that life is in peril. These days shall be charged against an employee’s accumulated sick leave, and a doctor’s note for these days shall be provided by the employee when requested. For other emergencies approval may be granted by the Office of the Superintendent of Schools. *Critical illness is when a physician requires the employee’s presence at the bedside at home or in the hospital due to the life-threatening medical needs of the member of the immediate family.
