SICK LEAVE AND OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE. Section One. Except where varied in this Agreement, the State will continue in force its written rules and regulations with respect to Sick Leave (one and one-quarter (1-1/4) days per month) or other paid or unpaid leave of absence.

SICK LEAVE AND OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE. A. The Publisher shall continue to maintain a flexible policy regarding the amount of sick leave granted employees based upon individual cases, length of service, and work experience, except that there shall be a minimum credit of ten (10) days each employee’s anniversary year. Parents of children under twelve shall receive an additional two (2) sick days per year. New employees shall accrue the minimum sick leave at the rate of one (1) day for each month up to the ten (10) per year from their date of hire following completion of their probationary period. Part‐time employees working shifts of more than seven (7) hours may take their sick pay in hours up to the hours in the shift missed because of illness. Employees may accumulate unused sick days in amounts set forth in the following schedule:
SICK LEAVE AND OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE. A. SICK LEAVE 1. All employees who are covered under this Agreement shall be entitled to 12 sick days each school year pro-rated as of the first official day of employment. 2. Unused sick days shall be accumulated from year to year. 3. Employees shall be notified of the status of their accumulated sick leave at the end of each school year. 4. If an employee is absent for four (4) consecutive days, he/she shall be obligated to submit a certification upon returning to work from a licensed physician indicating the nature of the illness and the necessity of the absence prior to obtaining sick leave. B. PAYMENT OF UNUSED SICK LEAVE 1. Any employee, as defined in Article I, who retires according to the provision of the TPAF or PERS in order to receive immediate benefits and not merely “deferred retirement”, shall be eligible for payment of unused sick leave days accumulated in the Spring Lake Heights School District. 2. Payment for unused sick leave shall be made as soon as possible after July 1st but no longer than September 1st. To receive payment for same, the retiree must notify the Secretary of the Board of Education on or before January 1st. In the event the Board Secretary is notified after January 1st payment will be made as soon as possible after July 1st but not later than September 1st of the following year. 3. Upon retirement, the retiring employee shall be compensated for his or her accumulated sick leave acquired during their tenure in the Spring Lake Heights School District at the rate of $45.00 per day. Employees hired after September 1, 1993 will be compensated for sick leave acquired during their tenure in the Spring Lake Heights School District to a maximum of 225 days. The Board of Education reserves the right to annually increase this rate for employees eligible for TPAF or PERS without establishing a precedent. C. LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITH COMPENSATION All employees shall be entitled to the following non-accumulative leave of absence with full pay each school year:
SICK LEAVE AND OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE. A. All full-time teachers shall be entitled to ten (10) sick leave days per school year, which shall accumulate. These shall be in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A. In addition, all teachers shall be granted two (2) additional non - accumulative sick leave days during the contract year, but only after ten (10) sick leave days have been used. B. Teachers shall be given written account of accumulated sick leave days not later than September 30th of each school year. C. All teachers shall be entitled to four (4) personal days per school year, or their full time equivalent, for personal, legal business, household or family matters which require absence during school hours. Application to the Superintendent for personal leave shall be made at least (3) days before taking such leave except in an emergency. The Superintendent may require a change of date if granting such leave would result in more than two classroom teachers being absent on the requested day(s). No personal days may be used immediately before or after a school recess. All unused personal leave days shall accumulate as sick days at the end of each school year. D. Part time teachers shall receive sick and personal days pro rated as per their full time equivalency rounded to the nearest half (1/2) day.
SICK LEAVE AND OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE. The Superintendent shall be compensated for sick leave in accordance with current District policy for management employees.
SICK LEAVE AND OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE. 12.1. The Employer shall grant leaves with pay for illness, including disability associated with maternity, up to a maximum of 26 weeks with pay. Satisfactory evidence of an employee’s illness may be required by the Employer in individual cases. Any leave for illness, injury or maternity that exceeds 5 consecutive days will require approval under the Short Term Disability plan, consistent with current practice. Any period of disability will count toward the 12 weeks of job-protected, unpaid leave provided under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). 12.2. Employees shall be entitled to leaves of absence without pay for parenthood (including adoption) for up to 18 weeks. The Employer shall continue to pay for any employee’s medical coverage as provided in Section 13.1 while the employee is on such leave. The employee will be required to continue to pay the rate paid by other active employees for such coverage. An employee may request an extension of this leave consistent with Article 12.5.
