Teachers and Staff. The Charter School shall ensure that all teachers and staff are licensed and endorsed as required by state statutes, State Board rules, Authorizer policies and rules, and meet applicable federal qualifications including exceptional education certified and ESL certified. The Charter School shall also provide any training required by state or federal law.
Teachers and Staff. Participating educators and school personnel (which may include teachers, librarians, school administrators, technical coordinators, and more) will be equipped with a portable computing device (hereafter referred to as the “teacher’s” device). The teacher’s device may be the same as the student’s device or may be a more fully capable device. Either way, the teacher’s device must satisfy educational and practical functional goals in the classroom and for lesson preparation.

The principal will determine the most appropriate staffing requirements and structure for the administrative office, who will report directly to the principal. Teachers and staff will be responsible for carrying out the procedures in their duties, activities, and interactions with students, teachers, and parents of the school.

PAI will be contracting with Academica as its Educational Service Provider, as detailed in Section V. Academica’s services are designed to allow the Principal and the Governing Board to focus on day-to-day school operations. Academica’s services include, but are not limited to: • Assist the Board in creating budgets and financial forecasts; • Assist the Board in preparing applications for grant funds; • Monitor and assure Compliance with all state reports; • Assist the Board in locating and securing a school facility; • Maintain the financial books of the school; • Assist with systems development; • At the Board’s direction, prepare agendas and post notices of all board meetings; • Assist the Board in identifying and retaining an employee leasing company; • Provide human resources related services such as dispute resolution and contract preparation and review and; • Assist the Board in renewing the School’s charter.
Teachers and Staff. The Board shall be the employer of all personnel but shall delegate all personnel functions to the Education Provider, including selecting, hiring, training, managing, reviewing, and terminating all staff associated with the School, including without limitation its teachers and all administrative and support staff, establishing personnel policies and procedures, and determining teacher and staff compensation. The Education Provider shall determine the number of teachers and the number of support staff required for the operation of the School pursuant to the Charter. The Education Provider shall select and hire such teachers, at its sole discretion, qualified in the grade levels and subjects required, and support staff as are needed to carry out the SABIS® Educational System of the School. Such teachers and support staff may, at the discretion of the Education Provider, work at the School on a full or part time basis. Each teacher hired or retained by the Education Provider shall be qualified as required by 603 CMR 1.07 and all teachers and staff shall have undergone a criminal background check and an unprofessional conduct check, as required by Charter School Law and other applicable state and federal laws.

At the time of executing this Contract, the parties anticipate that the following teachers and staff members will, under separate agreements, teach in the Charter School: (( LIST TEACHERS AND STAFF )) At the time of executing this Contract, the Parties anticipate that the following individual(s) will, under separate agreement(s), act as a principal/administrator in the Charter School: ((PRINCIPAL’S NAME, TITLE)) . The Charter School’s principal/administrator, teachers, and staff shall have no authority to bind the District in any way. Charter School shall promptly provide the District with written notice of any proposed changes to the Charter School’s staff. Charter School agrees that certificated staff shall be evaluated in an equivalent manner as other teachers and administrators in equivalent positions in the District. Evaluation procedures for certificated staff must be identical to the District’s procedures, unless the Charter School’s approved application includes a detailed description of the evaluation procedures to be used in the Charter School, in which case the Charter School may use that District-approved procedure. The Performance Standards adopted by the State of Alaska Board of Education and Early Development and the District for teachers and administrators must be included in any alternative evaluation procedures that are proposed for certificated staff. However, to clarify expectations, the Charter School’s Academic Policy Committee may develop additional performance indicators that are relevant to the educational program of the Charter School. To the extent required by any applicable collective bargaining agreement, any changes to the evaluation procedures for teachers must be developed in consultation with the teacher’s union, giving the union full opportunity to review and collaborate on those changes. Unless the School District and any association representing an employee agree to an exemption, all provisions of any existing negotiated or collective bargaining agreement applicable to any employee shall remain in effect while the employee provides services at the Charter School. All waiver requests and written responses from the appropriate bargaining units are included in this contract and are attached hereto.

All hires, retentions and nonretentions of Charter School employees must be approved by School Board. Teachers must be evaluated in a manner equivalent to that used for other District teachers. The School shall employ and be ultimately responsible for the teachers and staff, except in limited circumstances, and with written School permission, where K12 deems it reasonably necessary to employ such staff to deliver the Educational Products and Services hereunder. K12 may make recommendations regarding the hiring and firing of a teacher or staff. The School will be responsible for all costs associated with the employment of such staff (including, without limitation, salaries, benefits, travel, payroll processing and other School related expenses). The School shall ensure that, to the extent required by law, all teachers and staff personnel shall be State certified or possess the necessary credentials, qualifications, background and conduct checks as required by Applicable Law and/or the Charter.
