Union Conventions and Seminars a. Employees elected or appointed by the Union to attend conventions, schools and conferences of the Union, shall be granted leave of absence without pay, provided that the Employer is given at least ten (10) working days advance written notice of the leave. The Parties may mutually agree to exceptions to this notice period.
b. No more than ten (10) employees may be absent at any one time and such leaves cannot total more than sixty (60) working days in one (1) academic year, excluding travel time. The Employer may refuse a request for such leave of absence where two (2) or more employees requesting such leave are from the same department.
c. The Employer shall continue to pay the Employee’s wages and any benefits, including statutory benefits, based on the Employee’s basic rate during such leave. The Union shall reimburse the Employer for such costs.
Union Conventions and Seminars. 16:1.2.1 Upon written request from the Union, the Board will grant leave of absence without pay for attendance at Union conventions and/or seminars to not more than four (4) employees at any one time provided representation is by mutual agreement of both parties. Total absence allowed for this purpose shall not exceed forty (40) man-days in one year. It is understood that the Board will xxxx the Union for the cost of wages and benefits of such employees.

One week's notice shall be given to the Employer. The Employer agrees to continue regular payment of wages and deductions for employees on leave under (B) of this Article. The Employer will be reimbursed by the Union in full including holiday pay and pension payments. Where there is no replacement provided for the absent employee, the money reimbursed and thus saved by the Employer for said leave will be used to establish a special fund for educational courses for employees. The Employer will account in writing to the Union by November 30th annually, for these funds. The Employer will forward the interest earned on the funds twice a year on November 30th and May 31st.

On prior notice in writing, and after discussion with the Board as to distribution of representation, leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority will be granted by the Board to a maximum of five (5) Employees elected or appointed to represent the Union at conventions or seminars.

Subject to approval of the supervisor(s) and upon written request at least five (5) working days in advance, leave of absence without pay shall be granted to not more than ten (10) employees at any one time, who may be elected or selected by the Union to attend any authorized labour convention or educational seminar. Such leave of absence is to be confined to the actual duration of the convention or educational seminar and the necessary travelling time. Such leave shall not exceed ten (10) working days per year for each employee to whom such leave is granted.

It is agreed that under an approved leave of absence for Union business, the Employer will pay the employee in the normal course and then xxxx the local. The Employer shall xxxx the Union for all regular wages, vacation pay, statutory deductions, premium payment on health and welfare benefits, statutory holidays, sick leave, and pension contributions for full-time employees. For part-time employees the Employer shall xxxx the Union for all regular wages, payment in lieu of benefits, vacation pay, statutory deductions, and pension contributions.
