Early College. 1) The faculty role in the oversight of early college programs shall include, but is not limited to:  approval, supervision, and oversight of all co-operating teachers,  course content and curricular matters  evaluation of co-operating teachers,  assessment methodology for early college students, including necessary grading oversight/post audits  site visit(s) – mileage will be paid per the provisions of Article 23  discipline specific input into and participation in professional development to further enhance course content and delivery knowledge of co-operating teachers  education of co-operating teachers on program policies, procedures and any necessary oversight to check for compliance. The degree to which any of these or other necessary responsibilities and oversight occur are largely dependent on the faculty department, division, or other appropriate academic unit and academic administration goals and objectives. As such these may necessarily vary by co-operating teacher and academic program. AFUM unit faculty shall have the right of first refusal to early college assignments. AFUM unit faculty will supervise and provide oversight to any non-unit faculty providing early college supervision. Departments will recommend those faculty to be involved in early college and the number of supervisions. Such recommendations shall be provided to the chief administrative officer who may either approve or modify the recommendation for a compelling reason(s). 2) Consistent with the need to have qualified and appropriately credentialed individuals teaching early college courses, the faculty, consisting of AFUM unit members, in the appropriate department, division, or other appropriate academic unit shall follow the provisions of Article 7 in the review and selection of EC co- operating instructors. Typically, the review and selection of co-operating teachers will take place prior to the end of the UMS semester preceding the start of the UMS semester they are scheduled to teach (end of fall for spring, end of spring for fall). Each Department, Division, or other appropriate academic unit shall develop the process to be used in the event of a review outside of the typical timeframe. Should review outside of the typical timeframe become more routine, the University will work with the cooperating school to reinforce the timely selection of co-operating teachers. Early College. Program (Formally known as Collegiate High School): The Early College Program will serve 11th and 12th grade students for at least one full school year and will provide the opportunity to earn CAPE industry certifications and successfully complete 30 credit hours through the dual enrollment program toward the first year of college for an associate degree while enrolled in the Early College Program. Students participating in the Early College Program are required by Section 1007.273 to enter into a student performance contract, which must be signed by each participating student, the parent, a representative of the school district, and a representative of Indian River State College. The Early College processes are the same to that of Dual Enrollment with the following eligibility requirements.
Early College. High School students, faculty, and staff will have access to instructional and non-instructional resources available on the campus of the College, in keeping with the guiding principles enumerated in Section 3, “Guiding Principles,” of this XXX.

The preferred location for an Early College is within a school which is geographically isolated from a College Campus or Center (e.g., twenty miles or more from the nearest College Campus or Center). Early College processes are the same as the processes used by the Dual Enrollment Program, with the following exceptions listed below (Part 2). 1. Must meet all test score requirements to be admitted. 2. Must be in 11th or 12th grade. 3. Must be enrolled full-time through the College. 4. May not be enrolled in any high school courses. 5. Must enroll in a minimum of 12 college credit hours per Fall and Spring terms. 6. May enroll up to 18 college credit hours per Fall and Spring terms; up to 12 credits per Summer term. 7. Early College courses may not be in addition to the normal high school or part of the student's regular load. Students attending full-time College courses may not be enrolled in any high school courses but may participate in extra-curricular activities at the high school. 8. May not be required to enroll in more than 15 college credit hours per semester. 9. Students who fall below the full-time status are no longer part of the Early College Program but may be eligible to continue to participate in the Dual Enrollment Program. 10. Early College students may take college courses concurrently, through College Faculty at the high school campus, through the College's campus or online, as agreed on in the SACSCOC prospectus and agreement with the School Districts. 11. Preference will be given to Early College students, but available seats may be offered to Dual Enrollment Program students to meet designated enrollment numbers. For fairness and equity, a lottery system will be used if applicant numbers exceed available seats for both full-time and part-time students. 12. Each student participating in the Early College program must enter a student performance contract which must be signed by the student, the parent, and a representative of the School Districts and the College. Early College. Program Section 1007.273, Florida Statutes (2021) The early college program is an option for public school students to enroll in a structured high school acceleration program in which a cohort of students is enrolled full time in postsecondary courses toward an associate degree. The early college program must prioritize courses applicable as general education core courses under section 1007.25, Florida Statutes (2021) for an associate degree or a baccalaureate degree. North Florida College encourages students who wish to enroll in college credit courses to concentrate on general education courses. Students who intend to earn an Associate in Arts or Baccalaureate degree should carefully evaluate each course to determine its applicability to meeting degree requirements. College credit courses are defined as those courses that meet requirements for Advanced Technical Diplomas, College Credit Certificates, Associate in Arts, and Associate in Science. Dual enrollment courses may be taken at the College or at the high school site or at any location where college courses are taught, subject to approval by the high school guidance counselor or designee. In addition, eligible secondary school students shall be permitted to enroll in eligible courses regardless of delivery method. Early College. High School students will receive a degree plan upon the completion of a career and program of study interest inventory. During a student’s senior year, or after completion of the Core Curriculum, courses for field of study programs can be completed according to the College’s suggestion of course sequencing. Such courses shall have been evaluated and approved through the official College curriculum approval process and shall be taught at the College level. The College does not offer kinesiology, guided studies, competency-based or developmental courses for dual credit.
