Education Time. Regular full-time and part-time nurses shall be provided at least twenty-four (24) hours of paid education time per year for purposes of attending educational meetings (excluding Employer-mandated education/training times) approved by the Employer, such as workshops, seminars, and educational programs; provided the number of nurses wishing to attend does not jeopardize the hospital service. The term “educational meetings” is defined as those conducted to develop the skills and qualifications of nurses for the purpose of enhancing and upgrading the quality of patient care and shall not include any meeting conducted exclusively for purposes relating to labor relations or collective bargaining activities. Upon request, nurses certified by XXX or a specialty nurse organization who are working in the area of their certification shall be provided an additional sixteen (16) hours of paid education time per year pursuant to this provision for the purpose of attending educational meetings directly related to their certification. Nurses are encouraged to attempt to find their own replacements to attend approved educational offerings. However, approval for requests made in a timely fashion should not be contingent upon the nurses first finding their own replacements.

Attendance at courses required by the Hospital, such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), will be paid at the appropriate rate of pay.
Education Time. 20.01 The Union and UVMMC recognize that education is a key component of UVMMC’s Resident programs. Scheduled academic time, including, but not limited to, didactics, conferences, courses, simulations, computer training sessions, and orientation days, shall be protected to the furthest extent practicable. The term “educational meetings” is defined as those conducted to develop the skills and qualifications of nurses for the purpose of enhancing and upgrading the quality of patient care and shall not include any meeting conducted for any purpose relating to labor relations or collective bargaining activities. The twenty-four (24) hours of allowed paid education time shall not include time spent on education that is required for the nurse to work in his/her unit. Upon request, nurses certified by XXX or a specialty nurse organization who are working in the area of their certification shall be provided an additional sixteen (16) hours of paid education time per year pursuant to this provision for the purpose of attending educational meetings directly related to their certification. Additionally, regular full-time or part-time nurses shall be reimbursed for approved programs (with receipts), not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) per calendar year related to such educational meetings, including travel/hotel expenses, tuition, registration fees, etc. or for the purpose of purchasing educational materials for self-study or costs of certifications; provided, such reimbursement does not in the Employer’s judgment jeopardize budgetary constraints. On a case-by-case basis, the Employer may in its discretion exceed this annual reimbursement level, when the Hospital determines there are sufficient special circumstances.

Education Time. 2601 If attendance at a program is mandatory, the time in attendance will be considered as time worked for pay purposes and such mandatory class will not be charged to the SCNSC education leave. 2602 SCNSC will not be denied paid education leave solely on course content, provided that nursing continuing education units are being offered for the requested class. In addition it is recognized that individual SCNSC, upon occasion may wish to participate in bona fide education programs with or without CEUs. The Employer encourages participation if attendance at the programs will enhance the quality of nursing service rendered to patients and, if it will be beneficial, in general, to the total group medical care program, the Employer is willing to consider requests for such leave. Final approval for attendance must be obtained from the Employer in advance. Such response to Education Leave requests will be made within ten (10) calendar days. If the approval is given, the SCNSC will be eligible for paid education leave based on the schedule below. Any requests for days in excess of the accrued Education Leave will be considered by the Employer on an individual basis. Pay for such leave shall be at straight time. Requests for such leave should be submitted to the Employer sufficiently in advance of the program to enable effective planning. Education leave may be utilized on other than scheduled workdays. 2603 The Employer agrees that SCNSC may use Educational Leave on their days off in the same manner that it is utilized on scheduled workdays. That is to say, the SCNSC will receive eight (8) hours of Educational Leave on any given day, unless the SCNSC specifically requests less than eight (8) hours. 2604 In the case of home study or on‐line courses, following the completion of the program, documentation must be provided for pay purposes. The SCNSC will be paid one (1) hour of educational leave pay for each C.E.U.

The PPC shall review and recommend approval of 27 professional association memberships, licenses, conferences, or in-person 28 education requests and report such recommendations to the President. The 29 hospital encourages colleagues to complete online CEU education. In an effort to 30 support employees in satisfying continuing education requirements, colleagues 31 are permitted to take online education to satisfy CEU requirements during 32 periods of downtime during their workday with prior supervisor approval. The 1 hospital, at its sole discretion, may grant additional dollars for in-person 2 education.
Education Time. The Company agrees to reasonably support the Employee’s time commitments in his pursuit of an Executive MBA from the University of Southern California in La Costa, CA. The Employee will not be in the office on every alternate Friday beginning August 31st, 2007 for a period of 21 months.
