Elementary Preparation. Elementary teachers shall have as preparation time those recess periods when their class is at recess and supervised by playground personnel of at least one hour and forty minutes per normal week. Elementary teachers, including kindergarten, shall have as preparation time those periods when the class is receiving music or P.E. instruction by a special teacher for an average in a building per teacher of at least one hundred twenty (120) minutes per week in addition to the supervised playground described above, for a total of two hundred and twenty (220) minutes per normal week. Every reasonable effort will be made to insure that each teacher gets his/her scheduled preparation time.

The dates shall be identified prior to the start of the new school 28 year. The instructional minutes for Grades 1 through 5 must be consistent with 29 the instructional minutes identified by the District for the particular grade 30 level. Preparation periods shall normally be scheduled 35 times a year; but 31 may be less in some years due to the placement of school holidays on the 32 approved calendar. Scheduled preparation days shall not be changed due to 33 conflicts on the calendar, such as Back-to-School Night, Open House and 34 Parent Conferences. 36 e. Except in cases of emergencies, no meetings shall be scheduled by the site 37 administrator during the scheduled preparation period. However, this does not 38 preclude a teacher from scheduling and participating in meetings of their 39 choice during this time. 41 f. No waivers shall be accepted or approved to modify the 40-minute preparation 42 period for teachers. 44 g. The designated 40-minute preparation period is part of the teachers’ regular 45 workday.

If it is not possible to determine a suitable time exchange, then compensation will be provided at the per diem rate of pay. 4. Planning and preparation time will be free of other assigned duties.

Elementary professional employees shall, in addition to their duty-free lunch, have daily preparation time equivalent to the length of a regularly scheduled class period (no less than forty-two (42) minutes). Preparation time will include time between the start of the teacher day and the beginning of classroom/homeroom responsibilities. b. Every effort will be made to equalize the total preparation time during the student day (Art, Music, Computer, Physical Education, and Library instruction) as long as no additional staffing is needed.
