Preparation and Planning Time. 1. For Summer School Instructors with an instructional day of four (4) hours or less, there will be thirty (30) minutes of paid planning time provided each day, in addition to instructional time.
2. For Summer School Instructors with an instructional day of more than four (4) hours each day, there will be forty-five (45) minutes of paid planning time provided each day, in addition to instructional time.
3. The daily preparation and planning time will be performed as determined by the employee, so long as the basic responsibilities for instructional planning are fulfilled.

Preparation and Planning Time. 24.01 Each full time Teacher will receive a minimum of 240 minutes per week of planning and preparation time. It is understood that preparation and planning time is self- directed, to be used by the Teachers on a Board site. Part time teachers will receive planning and preparation time on a pro-rata basis.
24.02 Two (2) Professional Activity Days will be designated for the purpose of assessment and completion of report cards at the elementary level. One (1) additional Professional Activity Day will be designated for the purpose of assessment and completion of report cards at the elementary level provided there are three reporting periods.
24.03 Elementary Teacher Supervision
a) Elementary Teachers shall be available to students in their classroom fifteen minutes prior to the first scheduled class of the day and five minutes prior to the first scheduled class in the afternoon. Such time shall not constitute supervision/on-call or instructional time. Any assigned supervision duty during the times as outlined above, such as but not limited to, bus duty, hall duty, and/or yard duty shall constitute supervision.
b) The maxima of supervision minutes for elementary Teachers is 80 minutes per week.
Preparation and Planning Time. All instructional time in excess of teaching duties, on calls and supervision shall be assigned as Teacher preparation and planning time. Part-time Teachers shall have their preparation and planning time pro-rated.

1. No District-wide meetings shall be held during preparation time.
2. Use of preparation time should be included in the workday and not result in overtime.
3. Meetings with supervisors shall be limited to thirty (30) minutes once per month during preparation time.
B. Each Site Director shall have one (1) hour of preparation time per day and one (1) additional hour per month for team planning during the school year. This additional hour per month can be “banked” during the school year for a total of ten (10) per employee. These are “use it or lose it” hours.
1. If a Site Director works only a morning or an afternoon shift, he/she will receive a prorated preparation time along with transition time to adequately plan and prepare with other staff to meet the needs of the children enrolled in those programs. The total of the preparation time and transition time will not exceed one (1) hour.
C. Each Activity Leader shall have one (1) hour of preparation time per week and one additional hour per month for team planning during the school year. This additional hour per month can be banked during the school year for a total of ten (10) per employee. These are “use it or lose it” hours.
D. In order to ensure that Express students receive the maximum use of the Express Site Director’s time, Express Site Directors may have the option of completing up to half of their weekly prep time off site when access to their room is not readily available. After exploring all space options with their supervisor and with supervisor approval the employee may work off-site. (For example, the art room is the Express room.)
Preparation and Planning Time. 12.1 Professional Employees in the bargaining unit shall be granted a full thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch period. Except in the case of an emergency, these thirty (30) minutes shall be free of students. In addition to this thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch period, teachers shall be granted the following amount of preparation and planning time:
A. Throughout the life of the contract, each professional employee shall have a minimum of three hundred seventy-five (375) minutes of planning and preparation time each full school week.
i. Except in the case of an emergency and or meetings required by law, such as but not limited to RTI, IEP, Manifestation Determinations, DPAS II, and School Review, each professional employee shall have forty-five (45) consecutive minutes of planning time totaling two hundred twenty-five (225) minutes per full week. One hundred thirty-five (135) minutes of this time will be used at the discretion of the professional employee. The remaining time will be used at the discretion of the administration.
a. Sussex Consortium professional employees shall have this planning time within the Professional Employee contract day.
b. All other professional employees shall have this planning time within the student day.
ii. All professional employees shall be allocated the remaining one hundred fifty (150) minutes per full school week within the Professional Employee contract day and in increments not less than thirty (30) minutes. After consultation with the employee, special circumstances may warrant flexibility in the scheduling of this planning and preparation time. One hundred twenty (120) minutes of this time will be used at the discretion of the professional employee. The remaining time will be used at the discretion of the administration.
iii. Unless otherwise agreed to and/or in the case of an emergency, the building administration shall not usurp more than two (2) planning periods per month for other necessary meetings.
12.2 For this section, emergency shall be defined as an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting condition that calls for immediate action or a pressing need. Immediate action shall be taken. When time and circumstances permit during a prolonged emergency, a best effort shall be made by the administration to consult with the appropriate staff members including at least one CHEA building representative (the committee) to find relief from the emergency situation. Preparation and Planning Time. (a) Administrators shall ensure that employees are provided with no less than four and three-quarter (4.75) hours of preparation and planning time per week, to include no less than thirty (30) minutes of preparation and planning time per work day (as defined in Section 6.17 of this Agreement). Increments of time less than twenty (20) consecutive minutes shall not be considered in calculating the required daily or weekly amounts under this paragraph.
(b) The preparation and planning time required by this Section shall include individual preparation and planning and no more than thirty (30) minutes per week of collaborative preparation and planning. Collaborative preparation and planning includes professional activities required by the Administration of two (2) or more employees to mutually develop their delivery of Intervention/Direct Services as described in the appropriate instructional classification specification.
(c) Following are examples of the types of activities that should not be used in calculating the preparation and planning time required by this Section: Assigned duties, attendance-required meetings (other than the 30 minutes of collaborative preparation and planning provided in (b) of this Section), attendance- required staffings, mandatory training, parent conferences, and supervisory-free lunch (as provided in Section 6.17 of this Agreement).
