Field Training Officers. The position of Field Training Officer (FTO) shall be held by a Trooper or Sergeant who most closely meets the requirements set forth by the Employer which are outlined in policy OSP-501.08. If the Employer determines there are an insufficient number of qualified volunteers, it may appoint other individuals to be FTOs. The District Commander shall make the final selections. A supplement of eight hundred dollars ($800.00) shall be given to all FTOs for the sixty (60) working day training period. This amount will be prorated in instances where the training period is cut short or lengthened. Field Training Officers and their trainees will be required to work twenty (20) days on each of the three shifts during the training period.

Field Training Officers. The employer reserves the right to designate Field Training Officers. Field Training Officers shall have the responsibility to assist in the training of new employees under the direction of the Quality Assurance Supervisor. Field Training Officers shall be paid in accordance with the attached hour wage scales. Performance reviews shall be done every twenty-four (24) months.
Field Training Officers. Effective December 14, 2008, any sworn member designated by the Police Chief to work as a Field Training Officer (FTO) (or as called by any other name) shall receive compensation in addition to their regular rate of pay during the period in which FTO duties are deemed necessary by the Police Chief and are actually being performed. Two forms of additional compensation shall be made. First, one hour pay at one and one half (1-1/2) times the employee's regular salary rate for each day FTO duties are deemed necessary. Any FTO working at least four (4) hours of FTO duties will receive this compensation. Effective at the beginning of the first pay period after 10/1/19, if an FTO is required to complete two daily observation reports during one tour of duty, for training a second Probationary Police Officer for at least four (4) hours, that FTO will receive two hours pay at one and one half (1-1/2) times the employee’s regular salary rate. Second, special assignment pay at the rate of sixty five cents ($.65) per hour shall be made to an FTO for each hour during which the FTO duties are deemed necessary. Members must be designated in advance by the Police Chief or his/her designee.

This amount will be prorated in instances where the training period is cut short or lengthened.
Field Training Officers. Designated Field Training Officers shall receive one dollar ($1.00) per hour added to the base when actively training a probationary trooper on field training status. Management shall determine the number and composition of Field Training Officers, as well as the length and content of the formal Field Training Program.
