Further Study. Request for leave of absence for personal illness or caring for a sick member of the immediate family must be accompanied by a physician’s statement. Except in emergency situations, requests for leaves of absence must be submitted to the administration no later than April 25. (1997-98) Teachers are returned from leave of absence in accordance with the Board of Education’s regulations. Request for a return from a leave of absence for personal illness must be accompanied by a physician’s statement. The Board of Education may extend a leave of absence for an additional one year if circumstances warrant such an extension; however, the total duration of a long term leave will not exceed two school years. (2011-12) The Board shall provide temporary leave of absence with pay for the time necessary for appearance in legal proceedings affecting the employee’s employer, the school, the system, or other legal proceedings as required by law except those in which the employee is the defendant or plaintiff.
Further Study. 25.6.1 Non-probationary educators may be granted an unpaid leave for further study for the purpose of earning college credit or pursuing research, providing such research is approved in advance by the Superintendent or their designee. Educators taking such leave must pursue a course of study at least twenty-four (24) quarter hours or sixteen
Further Study. An extended leave of absence for further study may be granted for approved courses of study for not less than 20 hours of credit for the school year. Teachers failing to comply with this requirement will not be entitled to leave of absence benefits. This leave of absence may be extended for two successive school years. Requests to return from extended leave for study should be accompanied by an official transcript showing successful completion of 20 hours of college credit during a year's leave or showing such courses in progress.

Further StudyThe Board of Education shall pay the costs of reasonable expenses incurred in connection with any courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, out-of-district training sessions or other such professional growth. Reasonable expenses may include fees, meals, lodging and/or transportation cost incurred by personnel who attend such sessions, on the prior approval of the Board of Education. In the event an employee is directed to attend a workshop/conference outside of the regular workday, the employee shall be paid the hourly compensation as set forth in this agreement, but not less than $50.00 (fifty dollars) per diem.
