Leave Limitations. The following overall limitations shall apply to any combination of leaves, regardless of category: A. The number of calendar years granted for any single period of continuous leave of absence without pay, with the exception of extended military leave, shall not exceed the number of creditable years earned with M-DCPS immediately preceding the leave request, up to a maximum of four years. B. Exceptions to the above provision will be made only for extenuating circumstances, as determined by the Office of Leave, Retirement, and Unemployment Compensation.

The librarian, guidance counselor, band teacher, and vocal music teacher shall be considered as teachers of both buildings for purposes of this Article VII.

An Employee may be required to disclose the use of a leave day. C. Leaves shall be taken in one (1) day increments. D. The time for the departures and return of an Employee, except for personal illness, a family death or an emergency, shall be coordinated with the staffing needs of the Employer. E. The maximum leave of absence is one (1) year for an Employee’s serious illness. Any extension must be approved by the board of education. If the Employee is able to return after one (1) year they may apply for any vacant position for which he/she is qualified. F. No payment for unused leave shall be made.
