Professional Leaves of Absence. A leave of absence shall be defined as a Board-approved absence from work. An employee shall not be paid salary, wages, or Board-paid fringe benefits while on a leave of absence. The individual employment contract of any employee on leave of absence shall continue to run during the period of such leave and shall, therefore, be subject to renewal, non-renewal, or suspension, or as otherwise provided by law. Leaves of absence may be approved for the following purposes: A. Exchange teaching abroad, or other assignments deemed of special value to the government or to the school district. B. Professional studies designed to improve or broaden skills so as to become a better teacher. C. To complete field experiences for certification in school counseling, administration, or curriculum (may be granted for one quarter). To be eligible for consideration for leave of absence, a unit member must have completed three or more consecutive years of service in the Northmont District. All requests for leave of absence must be submitted in writing to the Superintendent. The request shall include the purpose and the proposed starting and ending dates of leave. Such leave shall be for the remainder of the current semester or school year, and may be granted for an additional two consecutive semesters upon application and approval by the Board. All leaves of absence are subject to the recommendation of the Superintendent and approval by the Board of Education. A unit member intending to resume teaching or to request to extend the leave for another year shall, by March 15 of the year in which the leave ends, send notification of said intent to the Director of Human Resources. Failure to provide such notification shall be deemed by the Board to be an indication that the teacher does not wish to return to teaching and has, therefore, resigned. Unit members returning to service following a period of time in which they have applied for, and received approval of, two leaves of absence requests shall not be eligible for further leaves of absence until they have completed an additional three consecutive years of service in Northmont District. An employee may continue to participate in District group insurance programs providing he/she is willing to assume the full premium cost of such coverage. Professional Leaves of Absence a. A tenured faculty member may be granted upon her request up to one year’s leave of absence without pay, and up to an additional year’s leave upon request, for advanced study, research or writing, exchange teaching, travel or any other professional experience which is related to her field of teaching or employment or which will improve her professional competence. b. Application for professional leaves requires approval of the College President or the Department Chairperson and shall be filed with the College President not later than March 1 or November 1 preceding the semester that the leave shall become effective. Requests for extension of professional leaves of absence must be made in writing at least sixty (60) days before the termination of leave. Failure to return to employment upon termination of leave shall constitute termination of employment. c. Benefits or rights accumulated by a faculty prior to the effective date of the leave of absence shall be carried forward and credited to the faculty member upon her return. When a leave has been granted under this section, the absence shall not be construed as a break in service insofar as seniority is concerned. d. A faculty member returning from a professional leave shall have the right to return to the department at the College which she left. In the event of the elimination of the position which she held prior to the leave, she shall exercise her seniority rights in accordance with the provisions of Article VIII(G)(2)(a). e. No more than two percent (2%) of the faculty members of the Colleges may be granted professional leaves in any academic year.
Professional Leaves of Absence. Each teacher shall be entitled to two (2) days per year of paid professional leave and three (3) days per year of paid administrative directed professional leave. Additional professional leave days may be granted at the discretion of the Superintendent or his/her designee, with or without pay. The use of professional leave shall be subject to prior approval by the Superintendent or his/her designee upon submission of a written request within five (5) business days in advance for the following purposes: 10.4.1 Attendance at professional and/or educational conferences and workshops. 10.4.2 For attending state or national meetings as a delegate of NEA-NH or a professional association. 10.4.3 For the receiving of a college or graduate degree relevant to their position as an educator within the district. 10.4.4 For visiting other school districts for purposes of observation of teaching methods, curriculum orientation and in-service workshop offerings. 10.4.5 Professional leaves of absence shall not be denied for arbitrary or capricious reasons. The Superintendent will respond in a timely manner. Reasons for denial of such leave will be given in writing within ten (10) days of the request at the Superintendent’s office.

No requests shall be denied arbitrarily or capriciously. 9:9.4 Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent and the approval of the Board, leaves under this section may exceed one (1) day.

If the request for extension is denied, the faculty member shall communicate in writing within thirty (30) daysof the denial if they shall return. The answer from the faculty member is binding. Failure to return to employment upon termination of leave shall constitute termination of employment. c. Benefits of rights accumulated by a faculty member prior to the effective date of the leave of absence shall be carried forward and credited to the faculty member upon their return. When a faculty member returns from leave, under this Section, they shall remain on the same salary step. d. No more than three percent (3%) of the faculty members of the College may be granted professional leaves in any academic year and not more than one faculty member from a unit may be on leave at one time. e. All benefits available to faculty members may be continued by the faculty member at their expense during their leave. f. A faculty member returning from a professional leave shall have the right to return to the unit from which they left and to the position they formerly occupied if possible. While a full-time faculty member is taking a professional leave of absence, the Board will fill the vacancy, provided a qualified replacement(s) is available to teach the course(s) normally offered and taught by the person on leave.

  • Professional Leave Professional leave without pay will be granted to full-time and regular part-time Nurses who are elected to the College of Nurses to attend regularly scheduled meetings of the College of Nurses. Professional leave without pay will be granted to Registered Nurses who are elected to the RNAO to attend regularly scheduled meetings. Professional leave without pay will be granted to Registered Practical Nurses who are elected to the RPNAO to attend regularly scheduled meetings.

  • Educational Leave of Absence Leaves of absence may be granted up to six (6) months under the above provisions only if the course would be beneficial to both the University and the employee.

  • Personal Leave of Absence The Administrator may grant a request for leave of absence for personal reasons without pay provided that he receives at least one (1) month's clear notice, in writing, unless impossible, and provided that such leave may be arranged without undue inconvenience to the normal operations of the Nursing Home. Employees when applying for such leave shall indicate the proposed date of departure and return. Such leave shall not be unreasonably withheld.
