Personal and Professional Leave a personal or professional leave may be granted to a resident upon review of the circumstances by the Program Director. All eligible Paid Time Off (PTO) for that year must be used during this period. The personal or professional leave not covered by PTO is without pay. (See Policy No. 2005.20 and 2005.21)

Personal and Professional Leave. 1. During each school year within the term of this Agreement, each full time professional employee is entitled to three (3) personal leave days with pay each year cumulative to a maximum of six (6) days. Personal and professional leave shall not be used during the first five (5) and last five (5) days of the student school year except at the sole discretion of the Superintendent on a case by case basis. Prior notification of intention to use said personal leave days shall be submitted in writing so that proper records can be maintained. An employee who has accumulated a maximum of six (6) personal leave days at the end of any school year shall automatically have a maximum of three (3) such personal leave days transferred and added to his or her sick leave as additional sick leave days. 2. Requests for attendance at professional meetings shall be submitted to the Superintendent for approval. This determination shall be made after consultation with the building principal, department supervisor and outline of the benefits that will accrue to the Cumberland Valley School District by such visitation.

A leave of absence without pay of up to one year may be granted by the Board of Education for personal reasons. Upon return from unpaid leave all benefits to which a faculty member was entitled at the time the unpaid leave of absence commenced, including accumulated sick leave, will be restored. Such faculty member will be assigned to the same position which was held at the time the leave of absence began, if available or, if not, to a position in the same tenure area. b. A leave of absence without pay must be requested at least sixty (60) days before the leave is to commence. Consideration will be given to the suspension of this sixty day rule in case of emergency. c. If a faculty member receives a leave of less than one year, any salary increase negotiated that year for the following year will be prorated on the number of days taught.
Personal and Professional Leave. The Principal will be allowed, on a non-cumulative basis, three (3) days of paid personal leave per contract year. Requests for such leave must be made in writing to the Superintendent as soon as possible, and not less than forty-eight (48) hours before the absence occurs, whenever possible. Such leave shall be allowed only when approved by the Superintendent. Approval for professional days, and other absences, will be granted at the discretion of the Superintendent.

Each teacher shall be granted two (2) work days professional leave per year to attend professional conferences and conventions, in-service meetings, workshops, seminars, etc. All requests for such professional leave must have prior approval of the building principal who will forward the request with his recommendation to the superintendent. When a teacher’s request for professional leave is approved, the teacher will be charged professional leave, and the district will provide and pay a substitute; or the principal, at his discretion, may choose to send the teacher to the meeting with no charge to professional leave days, and the district will still provide and pay the substitute. C. No more than three (3) work days personal and professional leave may be taken consecutively. Requests for personal and professional leave must be in sufficient time to secure a substitute. D. The Board of Education may extend personal leave at its discretion. E. A teacher serving on a jury or an employee who is subpoenaed to appear in a matter in which said employee is not a party or party of interest, during his/her scheduled working hours, shall receive his/her full salary for the time served on the jury or subpoena to appear in court, surrendering to the employer all payments received for serving as juror or subpoenaed witness less any payments for non-duty days, mileage allowance, meal allowance and parking fees. If such jury service or subpoena to appear in court is for less than half the normal workday, the employee shall return to his/her assigned duty.

Personal and Professional Leave. A. All full-time employees shall be granted up to four (4) paid personal leave days each school year. To utilize personal leave days, employees must notify the Principal or his/her designee three (3) days prior to the day requested, whenever possible. Personal leave day requests generally will be granted; however, personal leave days will not be granted immediately prior to or after any scheduled vacation period or school holiday or recess, nor shall personal days be scheduled in advance for Mondays or Fridays. Such personal days will only be granted whenever possible on as as-needed basis for unscheduled events. Any personal leave days not utilized by a faculty or staff member during the school year shall be forfeited at the end of the school year, except any employees not utilizing any personal days or sick days on Mondays or Fridays will accumulate all their unused personal leave as sick leave. Employees hired after March 1st will not be entitled to any personal leave days in the first year of employment, except at the discretion of the Principal. Employees with fifteen (15) or more years of continuous service with Xxxxxx County Schools shall be granted three (3) additional days of personal and/or professional leave. E. State leave days may be used only after local leave days are exhausted. F. Any remaining unused State personal leave will be transferred to sick leave as per State law. T.C.A. 49-5-711 G. If the locally provided personal leave days are not used, the Board will pay the teacher $45.00 for each unused locally provided day at the end of the school year.
