Length of Leave of Absence. Leaves of absence for any purpose other than military service may be granted for not more than two (2) years. If the leave commences during the school calendar year, the normal duration of the leave will be until the end of the same school year. In unusual circumstances and upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the leave may be extended for not more than two (2) full years.

Length of Leave of Absence. This provision shall continue for a period of up to two hundred and seventy (270) calendar days when the employee's situation shall be reviewed with the Workers Compensation Board. If, as a result of the review, medical opinion advises that the employee will be able to return to work within the next ninety (90) calendar days, then the leave of absence shall be extended until the employee returns to work or the ninety (90) days has elapsed, whichever is less.

If a licence suspension is overturned by a decision of a court, the employees shall be reinstated with full seniority but the Employer shall not be required to compensate the employees for wages and/or benefits lost during the period they were off of work as a result of the initial licence suspension. The Parties agree that, on a one-time basis, a leave of absence for a twenty-four (24) hour driver's licence suspension shall not be considered the leave of absence referred to in this Article.
