Shift Breaks. Employees are entitled to a minimum eight hours between the time they finish work and the time they begin the next shift. If the employee's shift is scheduled or extended so that the required eight hours is not provided, the employee has the following options:
(a) work the hours that overlap the eight hour interval, and be paid overtime rates for those hours, or
(b) decline to work the additional hours which extend into the required interval. If the first shift was scheduled to extend into this interval, the employee who elects this option will be paid at straight-time for the hours scheduled.

Shift Breaks. 3.6.1 An Employee who works a shift which is greater than five hours in duration shall be entitled to a paid shift break of 20 minutes, with five minutes allowed either side of that break.
3.6.2 The Employer may stagger the time of shift breaks to meet operational requirements. Shift breaks shall not be rostered to commence before the third or after the fifth hour of duty.
3.6.3 An Employee shall not be required to work longer than five hours without a shift break, other than for special operational requirements such as delayed train services or an Emergency.
3.6.4 Reasonable alternative shift break arrangements may be agreed between the parties to this Agreement after consultation with the Employees affected and, where entered into, written records kept of any such alternative agreed arrangements including the period over which they would apply.
3.6.5 An Employee shall be allowed a second shift break of 20 minutes without loss of pay where it is expected that the Employee will work beyond 10 hours in any one shift or has worked such hours extending beyond 10. The Employer shall make suitable arrangements for the Employee to take the second shift break.

Unless alternative arrangements are agreed to by the Parties, shift breaks shall be rostered to commence after at least three (3) and before more than five (5) hours of duty.
Shift Breaks. Eight (8) hour shift shall receive a paid twenty (20) minute break X 2 • Ten (10) hour shift shall receive a paid twenty-five (25) minute break X 2 • Twelve (12) hour shift shall receive a paid thirty (30) minute break X 1 and a fifteen (15) minute break X 2. Breaks may be combined when operationally feasible. Breaks will not be scheduled at the beginning or end of a scheduled shift .
Shift Breaks. (a) An employee, after the completion of time worked, after the usual finishing time shall be entitled to be absent until he/she has had ten (10) consecutive hours off duty without deduction of pay for ordinary time off duty occurring during such absence.
(b) Where an Advertising Production employee is required to resume his/her normal duties without having had such ten (10) consecutive hours off duty he/she shall be paid at double time until they are released from duty. This break may be varied by mutual agreement to a minimum of eight (8) hours.
Shift Breaks. 3.4.1 An employee who works a shift which is greater than five hours in duration shall be entitled to a paid shift break of twenty (20) minutes in duration. Unless alternative arrangements are agreed to by the Parties, shift breaks shall be rostered to commence after at least three (3) and before more than five (5) hours of duty.
3.4.2 The Employer shall not require an employee to actually continue to remain in control of their railcar for longer than five (5) hours and fifteen (15) minutes on a shift without having commenced a shift break during that shift, unless:
(a) there is no reasonably practicable alternative due to:
(i) an accident or Emergency; or
(ii) any other unforeseeable circumstances that make it necessary to delay the shift break to avoid serious disruption to the Employer’s railcar services; and
(b) the Employer has decided that it is safe to do so.
3.4.3 When an employee is on duty for more than ten (10) hours then the employee will be entitled to a shift extension allowance instead of an entitlement to a second shift break and a meal allowance. The shift extension allowance will be a sum equal to 0.75 Hours’ Pay at the Base Rate of Pay. The Employer will endeavour, where practicable, to arrange a second shift break of fifteen (15) minutes duration where it is expected that an employee will be on duty for more than ten (10) hours.
