Special Event Overtime. Special event overtime will be paid on a time and one-half (1½) basis to off-duty Employees who are assigned to work special events for which the City issues a “special event permit”. Overtime work by Employees at special events shall be approved in advance by their respective Department Head or designee and shall be subject to the needs of the Department as determined by the Department Head or designee.
Special Event Overtime. Overtime will be paid to off-duty employees who represent the Department at non- traditional fire suppression or prevention activities. Employees who are interested in working Special Event Overtime shall place their names on a sign-up list posted not less than seven (7) calendar days in advance of the event. If more employees sign up for the event than are needed, first preference for time and date to be worked will be given to individuals as they appear in the Department’s Special Event Overtime list. Overtime work by employees at special events shall be approved in advance by the Fire Chief or designee and shall be subject to the needs of the department. In certain circumstances, such as for testing validation, the same individual may be needed to work the special event assignment overtime on consecutive days. When this situation occurs, the Fire Chief or designee will notify the IAFF President or designee, before posting the sign-up list. This sign-up list will indicate that the same individual(s) will be needed for the duration of the event. If a member is scheduled for a regular shift assignment during the event, another member will be selected from the event sign up list to cover that member's regularly scheduled shift.
Special Event Overtime. Overtime will be paid to off-duty employees who agree to work at non-traditional fire suppression or prevention activities, such as Victorian Square events. Employees who are interested in working special event overtime shall place their names on a sign-up list posted not less than seven (7) calendar days in advance of the event. If more employees sign up for the event than are needed, first preference for time and date to be worked will be given to individuals as they appear on the department special event overtime list. Overtime work by employees at special events shall be approved in advance by the Fire Chief, or designee, and shall be subject to the operational needs of the department. In certain circumstances, such as testing validation, the same individual may be needed to work the special event/assignment on consecutive days. When this situation occurs, the Fire Chief will notify the Association’s President, or designee, before posting the sign-up list. The sign-up list will indicate that the same individual(s) will be needed for the duration of the event. If a member is scheduled for employee’s regular shift assignment during the event, another member may be selected from the event sign up list to cover the member’s regularly scheduled shift subject to the needs of the department.
Special Event Overtime. If a member who volunteers for a special event is notified at least twenty-four
Special Event Overtime. Special event overtime is any overtime required because of a requested or required Fire Department presence beyond a normal Fire Department response: including, but not limited to staff the station during the annual open hour or staffing an engine for fireworks, etc.
Special Event Overtime. (1) Special Events are different from Scheduled overtime, Grant overtime or Patrol overtime. Special Events require extensive planning, collaboration meetings, and supervision. These special events occur outside normal programming and activities. The Chief of Police shall determine which assignments are categorized as special events. Examples of special events may include, but are by no means limited to:
(a) Parades/Running/Auto Racing or biking events
(b) Concerts
(c) “Wide-load” movement events/permits
(d) Outdoor festivals
(e) Road closures for the purpose of filming
(f) Major sporting events
(g) Any other event that is considered large scale and/or requires permitting. This list is not exhaustive as the Chief of Police has the sole discretion to classify an event as a “Special Event” based on a case by case basis and dependent on the facts and circumstances of the event.
(2) The Homeland Security and Special Events (HSSE) Section is responsible for planning, coordinating, and on-site supervision of traffic control and/or security operations for each event and shall be assigned to these overtime assignments. HSSE will schedule any additional overtime that is needed for these events via the current overtime scheduling software, and in-line with “Fair and Equitable” assignment defined above in Section 5(a).
(3) Sergeants and Lieutenants not assigned to HSSE who wish to work Special Events overtime,
(a) must meet eligibility and training requirements for the assignment as set forth in Section 5(a)(6);
(b) must successfully complete a training course, determined by the City, in order to be eligible for assignment to these events; and
(c) will be assigned to these events for any remaining available overtime assignments after HSSE staff has been assigned.
Special Event Overtime. 8.2.5.1 An officer who volunteers to work for a special event where the number of hours is specified is entitled to full pay for the number of hours specified at the applicable pay rate, not to exceed one and one-half times (1 ½) the normal hourly rate of pay, regardless of the actual number of hours worked.
8.2.5.2 An officer who volunteers for a special event where the number of hours is specified as actual hours up to a maximum number of hours is entitled to full pay for the number of hours actually worked at the applicable pay rate, not to exceed one and one-half times (1 ½) the normal hourly rate of pay.
8.2.5.3 If an officer who volunteers for a special event is notified at least twenty- four (24) hours prior to the event that the event has been cancelled, no pay will be due. If notice of cancellation is provided less than twenty-four (24) hours in advance, the officer will be entitled to full pay for one-half (1/2) of the total number of hours specified in the contract at the applicable pay rate, not to exceed one and one-half times (1 ½) the normal hourly rate of pay.
Special Event Overtime. All available overtime shifts for any special event shall be offered starting with the top employees in the special event overtime roster rotation and continuing through the rotation until all manpower needs are filled. Employees not scheduled on a day the shift is offered shall work a minimum of four (4) hours
Special Event Overtime. If an officer who volunteers for a special event is notified at least twenty- four (24) hours prior to the event that the event has been cancelled, no pay will be due. If notice of cancellation is provided less than twenty-four (24) hours in advance, the officer will be entitled to full pay for one-half (1/2) of the total number of hours specified in the contract at the applicable pay rate, not to exceed one and one-half times (1 ½) the normal hourly rate of pay.
Special Event Overtime. In the event the City agrees to provide Police personnel for events in which it receives compensation, it will allow Police Officers the opportunity to sign up. The sign-up list shall be posted so employees can sign up for the overtime based on their classification seniority. School Resource Officers (SRO) may be granted the opportunity to sign up for School related special events prior to the list being posted for all personnel. The sign-up list for such activities will be removed five (5) days prior to the event. If no volunteers accept the opportunity to sign up, the City may assign other personnel as necessary, without consideration of seniority. If an employee volunteers to work overtime, the employee will not remove their name from the sign up within 5 days of the shift.
