Academic Conference Leave. If an employee is attending an academic conference, the employee and the supervisor may re-­‐schedule the employee’s work such that the employee may attend without any loss in pay. Should reasonable arrangements not be possible, the supervisor may grant paid leave of up to two (2) days on which hours of work have been scheduled per semester to attend academic conferences.

Academic Conference Leave. An employee who has been invited to participate as a discussant or presenter at a relevant academic conference shall be entitled to request Short Term Leave pursuant to Article 17.02. Leave requests will not be unreasonably denied. Confirmation from the conference organizers of the employee’s participation in the program shall be required upon request.
Academic Conference Leave. An employee who has been invited to deliver a paper, present research findings, act as a discussant, or chair a session at an academic conference, or who simply wishes to attend an academic conference related to the member’s discipline, may apply for a leave . It is understood that an employee may be granted such a leave only twice per academic year for a period not exceeding three (3) consecutive working days and only one of these leaves may be used for the sole purpose of attending an academic conference. In seeking written approval of the appropriate Chair/Program Director(s) for such leave, the employee and appropriate Chair/Program Director(s) shall develop a plan for how the employee’s duties will be covered during the leave. Requests for such leave will not be unreasonably denied.

Academic Conference Leave. An employee who has been invited to deliver their paper or scholarly or creative work at an academic conference may apply for a short term leave of absence for the time necessary to travel to and from the conference, and discharge his/her obligations. Approval of the supervisor(s) is required and shall not be reasonably withheld. In seeking the approval of the supervisor for such leave, the employee shall request the leave as far as possible in advance of the time the leave would be taken. The employee seeking leave may choose to: a) request to reschedule hours in order to be absent from the workplace for the period of leave requested; AND/OR b) arrange to exchange duties with another employee or faculty member.

The Graduate Assistant shall be entitled to reschedule hours of work during the Conference Leave without a loss of pay. Conference Leave may only be taken once between September 1 and the following August 31. A Graduate Assistant who wishes to take academic conference leave in accordance with Article 26 shall apply to their Graduate Assistantship Supervisor as soon as possible upon notice of invitation to present.
