Acting Battalion Chief hours of regular Captain's wages will be given for each full work shift worked out of grade. As of January 1, 2013, 2.8 hours of regular Captain's wages will be given for each full work shift worked out of grade. Assignment will be made entirely at the discretion of the Fire Chief or the Battalion Fire Chief. Payments will be prorated if a shift is split between employees.
Acting Battalion Chief. (a) A Captain assigned to work out of class into the position of Battalion Chief shall be paid a fifteen percent (15%) premium for hours worked.
(b) The out of class will be coded in TeleStaff as ▇▇▇ ▇▇. Overtime for acting BC will be coded OT OOC fifteen percent (15%).
Acting Battalion Chief. If a Battalion Chief position is vacant for 30 or more days, a Captain will be assigned to act up to fill that position. Acting compensation will be 10% above the member’s current rate of pay. For absences of a Battalion Chief of at least a full shift but less than 30 days, a Captain will be assigned to act up to fill that position. Acting compensation for these short-term periods will be 10% above the member’s current rate of pay.
Acting Battalion Chief. Any Captain assigned and working as an Acting Battalion Chief shall be paid at Step A in the salary range for Battalion Chief, as per Battalion Chief MOU.

Assignments will be made by the Fire Chief for long-term duty, or the on-duty Battalion Chief at the time of need, or by the Station 1 Captain through delegation by the Shift Battalion Chief. Qualifying as Acting Battalion Chief: Candidate shall obtain a copy of the Battalion Chief (Acting) check-off list and reference guide. Items on the check-off list shall be signed off by a Battalion Chief. Candidate shall forward the completed list to their shift Battalion Chief. The Battalion Chief shall make a recommendation to the Chief Training Officer to convene the review board consisting of the Fire Chief, Chief Training Officer and shift Battalion Chief. Upon successful completion of the review board, the candidate's name will be added to the list of Acting Battalion Chiefs. A copy of the completed check-off list and evaluation notes will be placed in the candidate's personnel file. A current list of personnel qualified as Battalion Chiefs (Acting) shall be maintained.
Acting Battalion Chief. 6.07.1.5.1 Five (5) percent less than the Battalion Chief base rate (Step A) of pay for short-term (twenty-nine (29) days or less).
6.07.1.5.2 The Battalion Chief base rate (Step A) (or Step B if possessing a Bachelor’s Degree) of pay for long-term (thirty (30) days or more).

Subsection 16.4.1 Any Captain working as Acting Battalion Chief shall be compensated at the Battalion Chief rate of pay for the duration of such temporary appointment, payable in hourly increments.
