Shift Transfers. An employee who wishes to work on a shift other than the shift assigned to him by the Company, may make application in accordance with the terms of this Section:
Shift Transfers. Employees transferred from one shift to another, unless relieved from work at least a full shift as set forth herein, before starting their new shift, shall be paid the overtime rates for the first such shift worked. However, if an employee working on the “first” or regular daylight shift is required to return to work on the third shift within the same twenty-four (24) hour workday period, they shall receive double time for the first such “third” shift worked. The twenty-four (24) hour workday period mentioned herein shall be the twenty-four (24) hour period commencing with the starting time of the daylight shift. No employee shall be transferred from a regular assigned shift to another shift more than once a work-week except in an extreme emergency involving a shortage of manpower.
Shift Transfers. Employees may be transferred from one shift to another for operational needs as determined by the Chief. The Department shall first seek volunteers who meet the criteria established by the Chief to fill the transfer in order of Department seniority. If there are no volunteers the Department may order the transfer of the least senior employee who meets the criteria established by the Chief on the shift from which the transfer is coming. Seniority for Firefighters and Engineers will be determined by time on Department. Seniority for Captains will be determined by time in grade. Request for volunteers to transfer shall be posted for seven (7) calendar days.
Shift Transfers. Employees transferred from a 24-hour shift will be paid 12 hours of overtime, in accordance with Section 15.2, for every holiday that occurred while they were assigned to a 24-hour shift. Employees will not be transferred from a 24-hour shift to prevent them from earning holiday pay.
Shift Transfers. Employees transferred may be required, as a result of the transfer, to work more or less than their standard number of hours in the regular work schedule from which they were transferred.
3.1 Transfers shift-to-shift, or accounting for hours due to short-term schedule change (i.e. classes):
Step 1: Select the timeframe commencing with the beginning of the last full tour preceding the event, to the end of the first full tour following the event, had the event not occurred and count the total hours the employee would have worked (if transfer is shift to shift, just count shifts for this step and the next).
Step 2: Next, in this timeframe, find the number of hours actually worked with the event taking place.
Step 3: Compare the two figures for a potential shortfall or surplus.
3.2 Transfers from 42 hours to 40 hours - Indefinite:
Step 1: Select the timeframe from the first Day shift of the tour preceding the event up to the beginning of the event (not necessarily a full tour). Add all the hours (including off time) and divide by 4.
Step 2: During this same timeframe, add all hours worked.
Step 3: The difference is the time owed the employee @ OT rate.
3.3 All shift transfers initiated by the EMPLOYEE, and approved by the EMPLOYER, shall be done on a case by case basis. Multiple requests shall be given to the senior member requesting.
3.4 All shift transfers initiated by the EMPLOYER, for the purpose of maintaining/equalizing battalion staffing levels shall be done voluntarily by seniority then mandatorily by reverse seniority.
3.5 Prior to any non-emergency transfer, and upon the request of the affected EMPLOYEE, the EMPLOYER shall meet and confer with the UNION to discuss the operational needs of the Department as well as the conditions of the transfer and the effect that the transfer may have on the affected EMPLOYEE.
Shift Transfers. Personnel transferred between shifts shall receive a minimum of 24-hours off between scheduled shifts. For example, a person assigned to A-Shift who is transferred to C-Shift will receive one 24-hour shift off. Further, a person assigned to A-Shift transferred to B-Shift will receive three 24-hour shifts off. When a shift transfer is initiated pursuant to the annual shift re-alignment that typically occurs in January of each year, the employee will be given at least 30-days written notice of the transfer, unless otherwise mutually agreed upon by Labor and Management.
Shift Transfers. Employees transferred from one (1) shift to another, unless relieved from work at least a full shift as set forth herein, before starting their new shift, shall be paid the overtime rates for the first such shift worked. However, if an employee working on the “first” or regular daylight shift is required to return to work on the third shift within the same twenty-four (24) hour workday period, they
Shift Transfers. When Management elects to transfer a Local member/employee, management will normally give the employee a 20 work days notice of the shift transfer. This 20 work days notice is waived for transfers that meet an operational need that requires immediate action. Operational need is defined as addressing an issue that deals with the safety and/or security of a firefighter and/or staffing level issues. In addition, the affected employee(s) may also waive the notification period by providing prior approval of the transfer. All previously approved leave of an employee that is later transferred shall be considered as approved and allowed to be taken after the transfer. If the shift transfer requires a switch on station assignment, the vacancy is filled using the below section.
Shift Transfers. An employee on afternoon or night shift may be transferred to day work, day shift or another shift on at least 48 hours notice by SPCA. Where such an employee is so transferred without at least 48 hours notice any day or shift or part thereof worked without that notice shall, for the purpose of this clause, be deemed to be part of the ordinary 38 hours of work. Such work shall be paid for at an extra half rate for the first three hours and an extra full rate thereafter on a daily basis in addition to the employee's ordinary rate of pay and shift penalties, if applicable. Provided that this subclause shall not apply where, with the consent of SPCA, an employee agrees with another employee independently to exchange a rostered shift to suit the mutual convenience of the employees concerned. Permanent employees shall be given preference to transfer to another shift, depending on skill requirements, in prior to such an offer being made to temporary or casual employees
Shift Transfers. No regular employee shall suffer a loss of pay, due to a lesser number of scheduled hours of work as a result of an involuntary transfer from one shift to another shift.
