Working Out of Grade. 18.01 When an employee in the clerical bargaining unit is assigned temporarily to a position with a higher rate of pay, the employee shall be entitled to receive the hourly rate for the position, hour for hour.

Working Out of Grade. An employee who is instructed by the Director to perform work that is not included in his job description and is normally performed by an employee in a higher grade shall be paid at the high grade rate for all hours worked in said higher grade, provided that the assignment shall be made based upon seniority and the employees having the job qualifications for the position and provided further no out of grade payment shall be made unless the out of grade work has been approved by the Mayor. Notwithstanding the provisions above, no member of the bargaining unit shall be required to perform custodial duties (e.g., shoveling snow, cleaning bathrooms, etc.). However, bargaining unit employees may be called upon to clean incidental spills, pick items up off the floor, empty their waste baskets, and other incidental duties. Employees will not be required to address sanitary issues and/or issues involving bodily fluids.
Working Out of Grade. Section 24.1. Any bargaining unit employee who is assigned by the Employer to work at the next highest grade shall receive the next highest Step 1 base hourly rate for all hours starting with the second consecutive hour worked.
Working Out of Grade. When an employee is assigned by the appropriate supervisor to perform work in any higher classification in the Town Classification Plan, he should be paid the higher classification wage for the time he performs such duties, or for one hour, whichever is greater.
Working Out of Grade. In the event of a shift vacancy for an officer (Captain) and an officer cannot be hired, the Chief will be notified and at the discretion of the Chief of the Fire Department the following procedure shall apply in the following order. A private on their scheduled shift who currently has five (5) or more years on the department, in a bargaining unit position, will be offered the first opportunity to work out of grade as a Captain. If more than one member assigned to the same shift meets these criteria, the private with higher seniority will be offered the first opportunity to work out of grade. Privates working overtime, working a shift swap, or in any other capacity on the shift will be offered the next opportunity to work out of grade. If no private currently working on shift is eligible for working out of grade, the shift will be offered to off duty privates who meet the eligibility criteria. If an eligible private is not able to be hired, the off going Captain will be held mandatorily. No private with less than five (5) years on the department in a bargaining unit position shall be eligible to work out of grade. The assignment of working out of grade shall be compensated at the pay grade of Captain, matching the current step of the private filling the position, for the hours worked in this capacity only.
Working Out of Grade. An employee, subsequent to the funding of this agreement, who is instructed to work in a grade higher than his current grade shall be paid for the time working in said higher grade at the step level in said grade that is fifty (50) cents more than his normal pay grade and if none then the step in said higher grade that is more than, but closest to, said fifty (50) cent differential. In the event of a promotion, the employee will be placed at the step level in said grade that is fifty cents more than his/her normal pay grade and, if none, then the step in said higher grade that is more than, but closest to, said fifty cent differential.

Working Out of Grade. Section a. When circumstances make it necessary for a man to work a full tour of duty usually delegated to an officer of higher rank than his own, he shall be compensated by additional payment to him of an amount equal to the minimum pay of that higher rank. Such extra compensation shall apply only to those specific tours of duty.
Working Out of Grade. Members of the Fire Department through the rank of Captain, who are ordered to serve temporarily in a higher rank, shall be compensated retroactive to the first day served in the higher rank at the same rate established for the next higher rate, after accumulating sixteen (16) consecutive working days, at that rank. The group lieutenant automatically assumes the role of officer in charge of his work group, without an order from the Chief, when a group Captain’s absence or incapacity makes a Captain unavailable to serve as officer in charge. A lieutenant is eligible for out of grade pay after the lieutenant works at least 16 (sixteen) consecutive 24 hour shifts (“16 consecutive shifts”) as the officer in charge (in place of the group Captain) of the group. Once the string of consecutive shifts is broken, the lieutenant is not eligible for the out of grade pay again until the lieutenant works a new string of 16 (sixteen) consecutive shifts. The out of grade pay is retroactive to the first of the 16 (sixteen) consecutive shifts worked. It is the difference between the claiming lieutenant’s salary schedule salary (Article 8, section 1) plus night differential and the salary schedule salary plus night differential for a first step Captain.
Working Out of Grade. Members of the bargaining unit working above their classifications for fifteen (15) consecutive days or more shall be paid the rate of the higher classification retroactive to the first day of such work. Effective upon ratification, employees in this bargaining union who are directed to report to work onsite after the Superintendent directs that all other school department employees to stay home from work due to a non-weather related public health or safety issue will be eligible to receive a stipend of $15.00 (fifteen dollars) per hour for all regular and overtime hours of work performed onsite at the direction of a Department Head. The School Committee reserves the right to stop paying the stipend upon providing one week of notice if one or more of the following events occur or as scheduled to occur: 1) school department buildings reopen to the public, with or without requiring appointments; 2) school department employees in one or more departments are directed to return to onsite work on a rotating or full-time basis; 3) the school department determines that the public health or safety risk as ended or has been sufficiently reduced and/or mitigated. In addition, all bargaining unit members will receive an annual payment of $200.00 (two hundred dollars) in recognition of the fact that they may be asked to report to work onsite as an employee during a non-weather related public health or safety issue on days that other employees may be asked not to report onsite. The initial payment will be made within a month of ratification of the tentative agreement by both parties for the collective bargaining agreement for the period of July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024. Thereafter, it will be paid out annually in the first payroll period of October.
