This compensation shall be paid at the rate of $1.50 per hour more than the employee’s base rate. Eligible Employees shall have a minimum of 24 months in the rank of regular (non-probationary) Firefighter / Paramedic and is eligible for promotion to that position.
ACTING OFFICER. The employee filling the position of any absent officer of the Fire Department shall receive a 10% pay increase. The 10% increase shall cease when the officer returns to his duties.
ACTING OFFICER. Any employee who shall have been serving in the capacity of a senior officer in the absence of such senior officer and who shall have performed the duties thereof, for a continuous period of thirty (30) calendar days shall, thereafter, be entitled to compensation appropriate to such office for the time so held; but said employee shall revert to his former rate of pay when returned to his former position.
ACTING OFFICER. A. Any employee who serves in an acting capacity in a higher classification at any time shall upon completion of a total of seven (7) days, once in a career, receive the rate of pay for the higher classification from and after the seventh (7th) working day.
B. Any employee who works in said acting capacity for more than two (2) hours on a tour shall be credited with one (1) day toward the seven (7) working days. If the seven (7) days have been reached, he or she shall be paid at the higher rate.
C. Any employee who is recalled to duty and acts as an officer in a higher capacity shall be credited with one (1) day toward the seven (7) working days.
D. Management shall not arbitrarily relieve any employee from an acting assignment for the sole purpose of preventing him from serving the required number of days specified in this article.
E. In the event there is an existing Civil Service Commission Captain’s promotional list for the City of Paterson, the employee chosen to serve in the acting capacity shall be chosen from said list in order of rank from each tour.
F. In the event there is no existing Civil Service Commission Captain’s promotional list or there is no opening for thirty (30) days according to the Table of Organization which and one-half (13.5%) percent more than the rate paid the top paid Firefighter’s pay scale set forth in Schedule A. if there is an existing Captain’s promotional list and an opening according to the Table of Organization the and the City does not fill the position within thirty (30) days, the employee shall receive the top rate of pay for Captains.
ACTING OFFICER. An employee who is ordered to work as an acting officer, either as Battalion Chief or Lieutenant, must work in the higher classification for more than thirty (30) days to receive the higher rate of pay. Upon attaining the thirty (30) day minimum, the employee shall receive compensation at the rate for all such time worked in that higher classification. An employee that is scheduled to be a shift leader of a shift for said quarter, shall be paid an additional
ACTING OFFICER. If a Fire Captain is assigned and works as an Acting Assistant or Acting Fire Chief due to the unavailability or absence of an officer of a higher rank for a minimum of two consecutive hours, the Fire Captain shall be entitled to receive a pay rate of 11% above the Fire Captain's wage rate for those hours actually worked in such a capacity. If the Fire Captain has achieved all of the established criteria, as set forth in department policy, the Fire Captain shall be entitled to receive a pay rate of 13% above the Fire Captain’s wage rate for those hours actually worked in such capacity. If an Assistant Fire Chief is assigned and works as an Acting Fire Chief due to the unavailability or absence of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief shall be entitled to receive a rate of 7% above the Assistant Chief’s current wage rate for those hours actually worked in such capacity. The Fire Captain remains an overtime-eligible employee. The selection of the officer to be assigned as the acting officer shall be made by the Fire Chief. An officer assigned as the acting officer shall be responsible to perform all the duties of the position and/or all other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief has the sole discretion in determining the need for such a temporary Acting Officer assignment. The officer must satisfactorily perform all the duties and requirements of the position. Unsatisfactory performance will be noted and may be grounds for non-appointmentat the next opportunity.
ACTING OFFICER. In order to achieve the staffing goal set in Article 13.10, if the regular scheduled company officer is on paid leave or paid training and no other Union officer is available to work, the most senior member who is authorized to work at the higher paid officer classification may fill the role. The most senior member may defer it to another member to fill the officer role, as long as they are authorized to work at the higher paid officer classification, the expectation is the member putting in for compensation is acting in the capacity of a company officer. In order to receive compensation for the temporary change in classification, the member must work at least two (2) consecutive hours in a shift and shall be compensated at the equivalent step for that position or at five percent (5%) above that employees regular pay rate, whichever is greater. Preference shall be given to the most senior member first and the employee will only receive this “acting officer” pay if no other Union officer is able to fulfill this position. Paid leave and benefit accruals shall be compensated at the employee’s regular rate of pay. The acting officer or regular company officer does not take the place of the Duty Chief position.
ACTING OFFICER. In the absence of a Lieutenant on duty, the senior firefighter on duty must assume the shift officer's responsibilities if no other employee is willing to assume same. Any firefighter who assumes the responsibility for Acting Officer shall be compensated at the additional rate of $1.40 per hour for, and only for all such hours actually worked. Any fire fighter who, in the absence of an officer of Lieutenant's rank, assumes the responsibility for that position in an out-of-grade capacity, shall be compensated at the additional rate of $1.40 per hour for all such hours worked. In the absence of a permanent or provisional Lieutenant on duty, the senior fire fighter on duty must assume shift officer responsibility if no other employee is willing to assume the acting officer's position. An employee who is appointed to be an Acting Lieutenant shall be paid the Acting Lieutenant stipend only for those hours actually worked in that capacity. An employee who is appointed to be Acting Chief who is absent from duty for at least one-half of a pay period of the appointment for any reason except line-of-duty injury, shall not receive the Acting Chief's stipend for said period.
