Custodial/Maintenance Employees. If a custodial/maintenance employee is unavailable for work for personal illness, he/she must: Day Shift Call immediate supervisor at least one
(1) hour before their established starting time. Second Shift Call immediate supervisor at least two
(2) hours before their established starting time. Third Shift Call the Director of Building and Grounds by 3:00 p.m. so a substitute can be called as needed.
Custodial/Maintenance Employees. All full-time fifty-two (52) week custodial/maintenance employees who have completed their probationary period will be paid at their regular rate of pay if they work (or if they are on a scheduled vacation day) the last regularly scheduled work day preceding the holiday and the first regularly scheduled work day after the holiday. These employees then qualify for the following paid holidays. Five or eight-hour utility cleaners shall be paid for Christmas Day only. Fourth of July Labor Day Thanksgiving Day Friday after Thanksgiving Day* Christmas and one other day** New Year’s Day and one other day** Memorial Day Good Friday (when scheduled on school calendar) *This day may vary depending on the activities and custodial needs at each school. **If the holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday preceding will be the designated holiday. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be the designated holiday.
Custodial/Maintenance Employees. Custodial-Maintenance Employees will perform general custodial maintenance duties to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment for the students and staff of the Reading Community Schools as outlined in their custodial-maintenance job descriptions. Additionally, custodial maintenance employees will perform light maintenance functions customarily associated with custodial positions as performed in the past and perform other maintenance duties involving the ability to work with power tools, heating systems, plumbing, and other tasks as may be required by the maintenance supervisor. Major breakdowns and repairs of such breakdowns shall be the responsibility of the maintenance supervisor with professional repairmen to be called as determined necessary by the maintenance supervisor. If questions or concerns regarding the assignment or definition of maintenance duties arise, a meeting shall be called between the superintendent and the Association representatives within three (3) workdays to discuss and resolve the matters of concern.

Any such probationary or trial employee may be dismissed with or without cause, and for any stated reason or without any reason being stated, and such dismissal shall not be subject to review directly or indirectly under the grievance procedure.
2. All non-probationary or non-trial employees may be dismissed for just cause.
3. After five years of employment in the district, the non-renewal of a custodial/maintenance employee shall be arbitrable under the contract. The only exception to arbitration shall be in the case of a reduction in force, in which case the non-renewal shall be in accordance with the provisions of Article IX C. This section shall apply only to custodial/maintenance employees with at least five (5) years of employment in the district. It shall not apply to custodial/maintenance employees with less than five years of employment in the district, and it shall not apply to any other category of employee.

Custodial/Maintenance Employees. 1. Custodial/maintenance employees shall perform their duties under the supervision of the building principals or head custodian and shall be responsible to the principal, or head custodian, for the efficient performance of their duties.
2. Custodial/maintenance employees shall be evaluated annually using the district evaluation instrument. The evaluation shall be in written form using the current evaluation tool. This instrument may be refined from time to time after the staff and administration have conferred on refinements to be made.
Custodial/Maintenance Employees. 1. Full-time Work Schedule a. All full-time custodial/maintenance employees shall work eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, including a one (1) hour meal break; in addition said employees shall receive a daily fifteen (15) minute morning break.
Custodial/Maintenance Employees. 1. The Board shall provide custodial/maintenance employees the following:
a. Two (2) sets of uniforms per year;
b. One (1) pair of work shoes per year;
c. One
(1) lightweight jacket every two (2) years;
d. One
(1) winter jacket every two (2) years; and
e. Work gloves as needed.
Custodial/Maintenance Employees. 1. The work day for full-time custodial/maintenance employees shall be eight (8) hours per day, forty (40) hours per week.
2. Full-time custodial/maintenance employees shall receive a duty-free lunch of thirty (30) minutes.
3. Custodial/maintenance employees shall be required to report for work when school is closed due to inclement weather to deal with the conditions created by the inclement weather, e.g.: snow removal, flooding, etc., and will be dismissed when those conditions have been remedied, or after four (4) hours, whichever is greater.
Custodial/Maintenance Employees. Custodial and Maintenance employees are required to wear district-provided shirts and long pants. Twice per year, the Board shall provide each custodian and maintenance employee with a choice of approved shirts and pants. Each custodial and maintenance employee may select items up to a total value of four hundred dollars ($400) annually, in twice annual installments of $200. Twice per year, each custodian and maintenance employee may elect to receive a laundering payment of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) remitted on their regular paycheck and deducted from the $200 uniform allowance. In addition to the above, maintenance and custodial employees who are required to wear uniforms and are assigned to work outdoors on a regular basis shall annually receive their preference of an insulated jacket, insulated coveralls, boots, or lined wind/rain wear, as well as gloves and hats.
