Department Chairperson. The department Chairperson has the dual responsibility of leading the department in fulfilling its responsibilities in academic and personnel areas and of facilitating the functioning of the department. The department Chairperson is the normal channel of communications between the department and other departments, division/areas or like groupings, offices and the administration.
Department Chairperson. Department chairpersons shall be elected by a majority of the full-time members of the disciplines which they represent. The term of department chairpersons shall be for two (2) years. When a vacancy occurs, a replacement shall be elected for the remainder of this term. In the event a department is unable to elect a replacement, the Faculty Forum President will assign this post to another member. This assignment shall remain in effect for the remainder of the term of office.
Department Chairperson. A faculty member assigned to act as coordinator and liaison between the supervisors and the full-time faculty in an academic department. Department chairpersons shall have no supervisory responsibilities with regard to other full-time members of the faculty. Department Chairpersons will assist the supervisors on each campus, as needed, in carrying out their duties and will assume responsibility for implementation of the curriculum for an instructional or non-instructional program or cluster of programs.
Department Chairperson. A. Secondary Department Chairperson or Building Management Team Members (grades 6 through 12) or District-wide Specialist Department Chairperson.
Department Chairperson. The Department Chairperson shall be the principle liaison between the administration and his/her Department. Department Chairpersons shall enforce College policies in the administration of their Departments so long as such policies do not conflict with provisions of this Agreement. Department Chairpersons shall present Department recommendations on academic matters to the Chief Academic Officer. Though Department Chairpersons have administrative responsibilities as outlined in Section 8.6 below, they are not considered management.
Department Chairperson. Teachers employed by the Board to serve as department chairperson shall receive $2,850 per school year for the term of the Contract plus $70 for each teacher employed 1/2 time or more exclusive of the chairperson. The salary is to be based upon the number of teachers anticipated in the department as of the start of the school year. Any required salary adjustment shall be made in the end-of-year paycheck based on the number of teachers in the department as of January 31st of the contract year. Monetary amounts listed above are based on a full year’s service. High school department chairpersons in English, science, mathematics, social studies, and special education shall have their teaching assignments reduced by one academic period per day, or to the equivalent of eighty (80) percent of a full teaching load, to perform the duties associated with the department.
Department Chairperson. 105 Department Chairperson: A faculty member assigned to act as coordinator and liaison between the 106 supervisors and the full-time faculty in an academic department. Department chairpersons shall have no 107 supervisory responsibilities with regard to other full-time members of the faculty. Department 108 Chairpersons will assist the supervisors on each campus, as needed, in carrying out their duties and will 109 assume responsibility for implementation of the curriculum for an instructional or non-instructional 110 program or cluster of programs.
Department Chairperson. A. No department shall exist with less than six (6) members. Every department shall have a Chairperson.
Department Chairperson. A. There will be a chairperson for any department of the secondary school level consisting of three (3) full-time staff members or equivalent. There will be a chairperson for elementary committees, which include but not limited to math, science, language arts, social studies, and technology.
B. A teacher selected as department chairperson will be given extra pay as determined by the Extra Pay for Extra Work Schedule.
C. The purpose of academic committees is to assist in determining the educational vision for the district. The chair of each committee has the responsible to lead these efforts in consultation with the administration. The chairperson of the secondary and elementary committees will have experience in their grade level/subject area. They will be highly qualified, as defined by Federal and State law in the department they are chairing. The administration shall remove a department chairperson who does not perform their duties satisfactorily.
Department Chairperson a. The District shall have full authority in selecting department chairpersons; however, department members shall be accorded the opportunity to express their choice for department chairperson by secret, nonbinding ballots which shall be delivered to the school principal.
b. A department chairperson receives seven percent (7%) of the base salary of the teachers' salary schedule.
1) Compensation for a department chairperson who is required to work beyond the contract year is at the rate specified for curriculum work on summer schedules.
c. When a department exceeds eight (8) full-time "teachers", the department chairperson will be provided one (1) period of release time daily.
d. Approved conference attendance is granted annually to each department chairperson.
1) Two (2) department chairpersons per high school per year shall be granted released time, with pay, for the purpose of conference attendance. Such shall be on a rotational basis within each school among the department chairpersons.
2) Conference travel is limited to the continental United States.
3) Travel requests must be approved by the Assistant Superintendent.
4) Expenses paid by the Board of Education include transportation, lodging, meals, and gratuities.
