Horizontal Salary Schedule Advancement. The following shall apply to horizontal salary schedule advancements which take effect after January 1, 1992. Before the School Board shall recognize any horizontal advancement on the salary schedule, each of the following teacher procedures must be completed, and each required approval must be obtained. Failure to follow the required procedures or failure to obtain required approval shall operate to prevent horizontal advancement. 1. The teacher shall meet with the Superintendent prior to enrollment in the course(s) which might be recognized for salary schedule advancement to discuss the teacher’s educational plan and the benefit the course(s) will have for the School District’s educational program; and 2. Any course work proposed by the teacher to qualify for horizontal advancement on the salary schedule must be from a recognized, certified and approved institution of higher education which maintains a graduate degree program in education; and 3. The teacher must obtain the Superintendent’s written provisional approval of any courses for which the teacher seeks horizontal salary schedule advancement. Such provisional approval must be obtained by the teacher prior to completion of the course work. The Superintendent shall provisionally approve courses which, in the Superintendent’s judgment, will benefit the School District’s educational program; and 4. Under no circumstances shall course work be provisionally approved: a. if an educational benefit to the School District is not shown to the satisfaction of the Superintendent; or b. if the course work was completed before the teacher obtained the Superintendent’s provisional approval; or c. if the course work is not at the graduate level for advancement to the master’s degree; and 5. After obtaining the Superintendent’s provisional approval, the teacher shall demonstrate successful completion of the course work by filing proof of successful completion in the form of an official transcript with seal, showing a grade of “C” or better before advancement is recognized; and 6. Horizontal salary schedule advancement shall be recognized twice each year. Teachers shall be advanced on the salary schedule for the first semester in any year if all required steps are completed and all required paperwork is properly filed on or before October 10 of any year, and shall be advanced on the salary schedule for the second semester in any year if all required paperwork is properly filed on or before February 10 of any year; ...

Horizontal Salary Schedule Advancement. A. Credit must be earned in an education program from a college or university with an accredited educational program. B. Placement on the BA+ column requires the credits be earned after the attainment of a Bachelor’s degree and an initial teaching certificate. The credits may be either graduate or Bachelor’s level classes. Any teachers in the bargaining unit as of June 1, 2000 may count credits earned after attainment of their Bachelor’s Degree but prior to earning their teaching certificate towards the BA+20 salary schedule. C. Placement on the MA+ column requires the credits be graduate level and earned after the attainment of the Master’s degree. D. Horizontal advancement on the salary schedule, as a result of additional hours or degrees, shall be allowed provided documentation demonstrating proof of hours and/or degrees has been submitted. Furthermore, if received by the Business Office by the 30th of September, the entire horizontal advancement will be paid to the bargaining unit member. If received after the 30th of September and before the 30th of January, half of the horizontal advance will be paid.
Horizontal Salary Schedule Advancement. 1. Credits shall be awarded and advancement horizontally on the salary scale may be accomplished by means of the following activities: a. The successful completion of approved academic courses leading toward the award of a degree from an accredited college level institution of learning, or b. The successful completion of approved non-matriculated academic courses from an accredited college level institution of higher learning, or c. The successful completion of approved professional development conferences, workshops or seminars involving the learning of new skills, techniques, processes, or knowledge, or d. The successful completion of approved trade courses involving the learning of new skills, techniques, processes, or knowledge, or e. The successful completion of approved fieldwork which is employment involving the learning of new skills, techniques, processes, or knowledge, or f. The successful completion of an approved project involving the learning of new skills, techniques, processes, or knowledge. 2. In order to receive credit for any such approved activity, the teacher, at least ten (10) days prior to commencing the activity, shall present to the Superintendent-Director or his designee a written prospectus describing in detail: a. the nature of the activity, b. the anticipated time to be invested in the activity, and/or the number of academic credits awarded for the activity, c. the teacher's reasons for believing the successful completion of the activity will make him/her a more effective teacher. 3. Within ten (10) days, the Superintendent-Director or his designee will respond to the teacher's prospectus in writing. Such response will include the number of Professional Development Points and the time or credit for horizontal salary scale movement. 4. Upon the teacher's submission in writing to the Superintendent-Director or his designee that he/she has successfully completed the activity, it shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent-Director or his designee to verify that in fact the activity has been successfully completed in accordance with its description in the teacher's prospectus. The Superintendent-Director or his designee's and Committee's decisions on such verification shall be binding. 5. Horizontal salary schedule advancement credits shall be awarded on the basis of one (1) credit for every fifteen hours of accumulated activities approved by the Superintendent- Director or his designee. 6.   • Salary Schedule The salaries of employees covered by this agreement are set forth in the salary schedule in Appendix A which is attached to and incorporated into this agreement.
