Leaves of Absence Military Leave. Section 22.1 Leave Of Absence The Employer, at its discretion, may grant a leave of absence without pay to any employee for a maximum duration of three (3) months for any personal reasons of the employee. Such a leave may be renewed or extended beyond three (3) months at the sole discretion of the Sheriff. The authorization of a leave of absence without pay is a matter of administrative discretion. The Employer will decide in each individual case if a leave of absence is to be granted. Denial of leaves shall not be appealable to the grievance procedure. The granting of any leave of absence is subject to approval of the Employer. Except for emergencies, employees will advise the Employer sixty (60) days prior to commencement of the desired leave so that the various agency functions may proceed properly. If a leave of absence is granted for a specific purpose and it is discovered that the leave is not being used for such purpose, the Employer may cancel the leave and direct the employee to report to work. Section 22.2 Military Leave Military leave shall be provided to employees in a manner consistent with federal and state laws governing military leave usage.

  • Military Leave of Absence Upon application, a military leave of absence without pay will be granted to employees who are inducted through Selective Service or voluntary enlistment, or those called through membership in the National Guard or reserve component into the Armed Forces of the United States. Credited service for military service shall be determined by the retirement plan.
