Notification and Verification. Employees who intend to be absent from work due to illness or injury must notify their supervisor prior to the start of the workday. The City reserves the right to have an employee examined by the City’s medical professional, at City cost, to determine fitness for duty. The City’s right to have employees examined by the City’s medical professional does not in any way limit the employee’s rights to be treated by a medical professional of their choice. Nothing in this article will limit the City’s right to deem leave taken as leave provided for under the State or Federal Family Medical Leave Acts.

Procedures for reporting shall be as specified by the ▇▇▇▇/Director or Human Resources. Although it is the unit 14 member's responsibility to provide a written statement prior to return from an extended absence, the 15 Human Resources Office or appropriate supervisor shall attempt to notify the unit member of the 16 requirement on or before the tenth day of absence.
