Occupational Experience. Since occupational experience may be very valuable to classroom instruction, salary points for occupational experience shall be available to all faculty who do not have a doctorate. If a doctorate is earned subsequent to a faculty member being awarded points for occupational experience, the faculty member will be moved to Group A, and points awarded for occupational experience will be retained. Points for occupational experience will be given only for full-time employment, and excess occupational experience may be counted as other related experience at the rate of one (1) point per year. Self-employment will not be counted unless it is on a full-time basis, i.e., an electronics technician operating his/her own shop. A year for occupational experience will be the normal work year of twelve (12) months.

Occupational Experience. Up to 5 years of Occupational Experience may be granted at the sole discretion of the superintendent or his/her designee, if such experience is deemed appropriate and assists with the recruitment of the most qualified candidate. Catch-up provision: If such occupational experience is granted to a newly hired candidate by Superintendent’s sole discretion, teachers who have been hired into a teaching position in that specific content area within the last 5 years, and who possess relevant occupational experience in their teaching area, but did not receive credit for such relevant occupational experience shall have the opportunity to petition the superintendent for revised placement on the salary schedule to recognize up to 5 years of relevant occupational experience. The teacher shall be responsible for initiating this review and providing documentation regarding the occupational experience to be considered no later than February 15 of the contract year in which such occupational credit was granted to the newly hired teacher in that specific content area. If the petition is granted, the teacher shall be advanced on the salary schedule to the appropriate step effective with the first contract day of the current year and shall proceed from that newly placed step forward. No retroactive pay for previous contract years shall be made for this advanced placement. This Catch-up provision shall be in effect through June 30, 2020 at which time this Catch-up provision shall be discontinued.
Occupational Experience. The following procedure shall be followed to obtain advancement credit for additional occupational experience or an occupational workshop: a. A request for initial approval of anticipated occupational experience or workshop shall be submitted to the Vice President prior to the applicant actually beginning employment or attending the workshop. The request shall include a letter from the business or industry's management outlining the applicant's anticipated occupational experience or an agenda of the workshop. Special exceptions may be made by the Vice President. b. The Vice President shall return a signed copy of the request to the applicant within 15 days indicating approval or rejection. In the event that a request is denied, the applicant may within ten days submit a second request for reconsideration. Upon receiving a second request for reconsideration, the Vice President will discuss the original request and decision with the Xxxx and some appropriate members of the faculty and advisory committees to gain a further input of understanding especially in relationship to the processes and techniques involved in the occupational experience or workshop contemplated. Where feasible a meeting of those people will be held for that purpose. This group will act to advise the Vice President only and will in no way assume the authority of the office of Vice President. Following an input of information from the sources cited above, the Vice President will issue a final decision on the request giving not only the decision, but also the rationale of the people contacted that had an input into that decision. c. In the case of occupational experience to receive an adjustment of the current year's contract, a letter of report from the employer outlining the occupational responsibilities and successful employment shall be submitted to the Vice President prior to September 1. In the case of an occupational workshop to receive an adjustment of the current year's contract, a transcript, certificate or letter from the sponsor of the workshop indicating attendance in hours of educational experience and successful completion shall be submitted to the Vice President prior to September 1. In addition, in both the cases of occupational workshop or experience, prior to September 1, the faculty member shall submit an evaluative report outlining the values and possible application of the experiences completed. Occupational Experience. A sabbatical leave may be granted to engage in renewal of occupational skills or to establish occupational experience in an area approved by the College President or designee. The experience shall approximate a full-time position. 1) Along with the proposal, applicants under this section shall provide a letter from the proposed employer that describes the employment being offered, guarantees it for the period of the sabbatical, and indicates the amount of wages expected to be paid during the employment. 2) A copy of the W-2 form covering the employment, or a statement of earnings from the employer must accompany the sabbatical leave report or be provided by January 31 following the sabbatical.
