OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY CLOSURE. 40.01 Should the President or her/his delegate declare that the University or an area of the University, be officially closed temporarily due to environmental conditions, utility disruptions, road conditions, acts of God or other similar emergencies beyond the control of the employees covered by this Agreement, employees shall receive their regular salary and benefits during the closure. (Those closures shall not be considered a University holiday as in Article 19.)

In the case of an area of the University being closed, and where alternate work is available in another area or department of the University, it is understood and agreed that the employee shall be informed if she/he is to be temporarily reassigned to that area or department (subject to Article 22.09 - Transfer Outside the Bargaining Unit).

Those employees required to remain on duty to provide essential services shall be given the equivalent time off with such time off to be taken within the following calendar month. Should these employees be required to remain beyond their normal hours of work, the usual provisions for overtime would apply. Employees who are requested to report for work for an afternoon or night shift which commences during a closure shall receive equivalent time off for all hours worked on the shift, with such time off to be taken within the following calendar month. Should these employees be required to remain beyond their normal hours of work, the usual provisions for overtime would apply.
OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY CLOSURE. Where severe snow conditions require decisions regarding staffing levels and Article 13.01, the following procedures will apply: Notification procedures shall be established by each department which will include contingency plans in the event phone services are disrupted and/or recorded phone messages cannot be accessed. The department head will be responsible for establishing the content of the notification. The notification will include whether there is a curtailment of non-vital services and/or the cancellation of classes. In the event of such curtailment and/or cancellation, it will include what operationally vital services will be continued and require the presence of predesignated operationally vital employees. In addition to persons predesignated, the department head may identify additional positions/functions based on operational requirements at the time of the snow (for example, exams and special conferences). Departments shall advance to Human Resources and the Union their list of predesignated vital positions/functions not later than May 30, 1997. It is understood that subsequent changes, if any, will be forwarded in a timely fashion. It is understood that some departments, although generally vital to the University and its operation, may not have for “severe snow conditions” predesignated positions/functions. Departments, that in the event of severe snow conditions have vital positions/functions not predesignated and/or that designate additional positions/functions as per paragraph 3 above shall forward a list of same with detailed explanation to the Human Resources Department and the Union within 10 days following the snow conditions end. In deciding as to whether or not a curtailment or cancellation will affect any department, the department will base its decision on the following: • the President’s (or delegates’) decision about the cancellation of classes and/or the curtailment of non-vital services • the operational requirements of the department • the safety of employees travelling to and from work and at work • what other departments are doing • availability of public transportation.
OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY CLOSURE. 25.9.1 Should the President declare the University closed temporarily due to environmental conditions, utility disruptions, road conditions, acts of God, or other similar emergencies, Members will receive their regular salary and benefits during the closure. 25.9.2 The University assumes that Members will make every effort to get to work on time during inclement weather. When storms occur, Members are expected to make arrangements that will enable them to arrive as soon as possible and to notify their immediate supervisor of possible delays or absence. 25.9.3 Severe weather may lead to a decision either to cancel classes, in which case all other normal activities of the University continue, or to close the University with the exception of essential services. Consistent with the University Policy 7.6 (Severe‌ Weather Closing) the positions of Animal Care Technician and Supervisor may be designated essential services. 25.9.4 The decision to close the University or to cancel classes will be made by 7:00 a.m. for day classes and scheduled events, and by 2:00 p.m. for classes and scheduled events after 5:30 p.m. 25.9.5 All Members identified under Article 25.10.3 required to work when the University is closed will be entitled to receive compensation of time and one-half either as time in lieu or in pay for all hours worked during the closure. 25.9.6 In the event of a power outage, the Research Instrumentation Technician and the Animal Care Supervisor (or the Animal Care Technician) will be required to work. Compensation will be as follows: (i) if the power outage results in the closure of the University during normal working hours, the Research Instrumentation Technician and the Animal Care Supervisor (or the Animal Care Technician) will be entitled to receive compensation of time and one-half either as time in lieu or in pay for all hours worked during the closure. (ii) if the power outage occurs outside of normal working hours, the Research Instrumentation Technician and the Animal Care Supervisor (or Animal Care Technician) will be compensated as per Article 23.10 (Call Back). 25.9.7 A leave with full compensation and benefits of up to one (1) day per fiscal year will be granted to a Member who is absent from work as a result of extreme weather conditions when the University is open. Further leaves of this nature may be granted in accordance with Article 25.12 (Personal Leave).
OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY CLOSURE. ‌ Where severe snow conditions, utility disruptions, road conditions, or other reasons beyond the control of employees in Child Care Services Programs require decisions about staffing levels, the following procedures will apply: The Department of Housing and Conferences will establish notification procedures, including contingency plans, in the event phone services are disrupted and/or recorded phone messages can't be accessed. The Director of Housing and Conferences will be responsible for establishing the content of the notification. The notification will include whether Child Care Services Programs will be curtailed. In deciding whether this is necessary, the Director will base the decision on the following factors: • the President's (or delegate's) decision about cancellation of classes and/or curtailment of non-vital services; • operational requirements for Child Care Services Programs; • safety of employees travelling to and from work and home; • the decisions made by other units and departments; and • availability of public transportation. Curtailment of Child Care Services Programs will constitute a closure, and all Child Care Services Programs employees who are normally required to work during that time will receive their normal salary.

OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY CLOSURE. Should the University campus, or an area of the University campus, at which the employee is scheduled to work, be officially closed due to environmental conditions, utility disrup- tions, Acts of God, or other reasons beyond the control of the Employer, each normal workday during such a closure shall be an Office Holiday.
OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY CLOSURE. ‌ (a) Should the University, or an area of the University, be officially closed so that the access to or operation of the workplace(s) is denied due to environmental conditions, utility disruptions, force majeure events , or other reasons beyond the control of the Employees covered by this Agreement, each normal workday or portion thereof during each closure during which the Employer and the Employee cannot reasonably make arrangements for the Employee to work remotely shall be with no loss of pay, seniority or benefit to the Employees to a maximum of five (5) days in any one occurrence. (b) Where an official University closure is announced before the halfway point of an Employee’s scheduled workday, and where the Employer and the Employee can reasonably make arrangements for the Employee to resume work remotely for the rest of the day, then the Employer may direct that an Employee resume work remotely. The Employer shall determine whether or not operations should continue remotely, despite a University closure, in consultation with the Job Xxxxxxx in consideration of the circumstances causing the closure. (c) Where an official University closure is announced in the second half of an Employee’s scheduled workday, the workday will end with no loss of pay for the Employee.
