Prelude. LGED is implementing the Community Based Resource Management Project (CBRMP) (hereinafter referred to as the Project) which seeks increase of the income of the landless, small and marginal householders in Sunamgonj and the surrounding haors in a sustainable way. The joint IFAD/GOB aided project aims at increasing the incomes of the poor through five components, namely: (a) labour intensive infrastructure development; (b) fisheries development; (c) crop and livestock production; (d) provision of micro-finance and (e) the development of grass root institutional development. In its implementation, the project would work closely with various Ministries and Government agencies, Research Institutions, National & International NGO’s in the project area. Technologies are being generated by the research organizations, testing in the field through on farm research trials and ultimately recommended for extension through out the country. The project district is mostly low-lying area and composed of many large haors (water bodies during rainy season: April – September). Both the formulation-mission and appraisal mission has rightly foresee the importance of adaptive research in the locality and included in the project proposal. Sunamgonj has bit different agro-ecological condition than other parts of the country. The district does not consist of any research station/sub-station to validate any of the crop production technology. On the other hand DAE is working with minimum manpower (50% of the sanctioned posts) in the district. The project targeted to achieve livelihood improvement of the poor people, which cannot be possible neglecting agriculture development of rural households when most of them are largely dependent upon subsistence agriculture. Poor inhabitants are heavily dependent either upon catching fish or crop production. Considering all these limitations the project has chosen the option to test and validate the available improved crop production technologies/crops in the location before planning of extension program for the target households. Though Sunamgonj district is predominant with boro rice land (haor area) but there is almost 25% land suitable for xxxx xxxx cultivation. People cultivates xxxx xxxx in riverbanks and in upper xxxx or upper haor areas where growing of rabi crops could be an option for crop intensification. Irrigation in dry season is a common problem and due to deeper water table (400-500ft) STW is not easily feasible. DTW is not advis...

Prelude. The aim of this section is twofold. On the one hand it shows that the problem of the actualization of the moral ego and its implication for the question of what human-being as a whole played an important role in Kant’s religious writings. On the other hand, it puts forward a prelude to an extensive critique that will be addressed to the Kant’s conception of this problem in his Religionsschriften. While the foundation and elements of this critique will be fully explained in later chapters, it is here mentioned in brief to demonstrate an important point. Although Xxxx was clearly aware of the problems of the actuality of the moral ego and hence the problem of defining the human as a whole, he often committed the mistake of reducing the wholeness of humanity to its rational transcendent essence represented by the free moral subject. He thus failed to systematically deal with humanity in terms of his own notion that the human is a ‘rational-natural’ being. This failure was mostly manifested, as the argument will preliminarily be made here, in his writings on religion. In turn, such failure was reflected in the reception of Kant's conception of the relation between religion and the questions of history, progress and meaning.29

Prelude. In this introduction I will review relevant features of ciliary structure and function that provide part of the foundation for my study of the phosphatase PP2A and its role in cilia. This includes review of the structure of the 9+2 ciliary axoneme, evidence that one of the motors, I1 dynein, is regulated by phosphorylation and that a key enzyme, the phosphatase PP2A, may be an important component of regulation and is physically localized in the axoneme. I will review the PP2A family of phosphatases and finish by defining the hypothesis that the otherwise ubiquitous PP2A holoenzyme is targeted and anchored in the axoneme by an axonemal PP2A B- subunit. This is an important idea, providing a basis for specificity of phosphatase activity. In Chapter 2, I will provide additional background on the identification of PP2A in the axoneme. In this thesis, I will demonstrate that PP2A is required for normal ciliary movement.
Prelude. In the preface to its first edition, Xxxx explains that the Critique of Judgment is intended to conclude his critical project. Accordingly, it is legitimate to consider the problem Xxxx sets out to resolve in the Critique of Judgment the key problem he identified with his critical project after the publication of the first and second Critiques. In both the first and second introductions to the Critique of Judgment Xxxx is most concerned with two problems: the first concerns the correspondence between a proper division of philosophy on one hand and the faculties of the human mind— Gemüt1—along with the powers associated with each of these faculties on the other. 1 As is quite common among English translators of Xxxx, Xxxx Xxxxx and Xxxxxx X. Xxxxxx translate Gemüt as ‘mind’ at the beginning of section III of the first introduction (20:205-206). While I think such translation is warranted given the generic way in which Xxxx deploys this terms as well as Xxxxx, I think the connotations the word ‘mind’ has in contemporary philosophy could lead to rather reductive readings of Xxxx. From a strict linguistic perspective the word Gemüt essentially means soul and has an affective more than an intellectual and dry cognitive implication. It is also used to refer to one’s state of mind and general disposition or temperance. This sense is further reflected in the uses of the adjective gemütlich and the noun gemütlichkeit—when they are used with reference to human beings. As far as Kant’s use of the term is concerned, it was primarily used as a general term to refer to all inner acts of consciousness whether affective or cognitive in order to avoid the medieval substantial import of the word soul—Seele. This general use of the word Gemüt is demonstrated in the works of Kant’s immediate students and commentators. In the Encyclopädisches Wörterbuch der Kritischen Philosophie published by G.S.A. Xxxxxx in Xxxx in 1799, Gemüt is listed under the Latin animus. Xxxxxx lists two of the definitions Xxxx consigns to Gemüt. First that it is: “Vermögen zu empfinden und zu denken (A 58)” (Wörterbuch 857)—capacity or faculty of feeling and thinking. Second that it’s a term that saves Xxxx the medieval substantial language of ‘soul’ with its loaded Aristotelian and scholastic heritage: “In diesem Vermögen stellt man sich alle innere, zum Erkennen und Wollen gehorende Vermögen vereinigt vor, ohne doch dasselbe schon als Substanz (anima) zu denken. Man gewinnt dadurch das, dass in solc...
