Project Aims. It is important for Durham Probation Service and Durham County Council to work closely to ensure that offenders are seen to be carrying out work on behalf of the community. The work should be visible, identified by the community and provide opportunities for offenders to develop skills which would increase their capacity to become more employable. Research has shown that offenders who gain employment are less likely to commit further offences. Therefore, this arrangement would not only benefit the community with the work carried out, but also protect the public from further offending and increasing public confidence. This will be achieved by:-  Extending the existing work across the whole county, managed through this local agreement to provide daily work in each of the three Streetscene Operational Areas.  Involving the public in selecting projects, through the Area Action Partnerships coordinated by Direct Services, Streetscene Team.  Increasing the visibility of the work conducted under the banners of Community Payback and ‘Altogether greener’ and “Altogether Safer” through publicity.  Imaginative projects which provide opportunities for skill development.  Potential for training as an integral part of the Community Payback Programme.  Potential for offenders who demonstrate a good work record and willingness to develop skills during the Community Payback Order, to be considered for interview or recruitment if vacancies arise.

Project Aims. The aim of the project was to investigate the role of IQGAP3 in triple negative breast cancer cells and to identify potential mechanisms via which IQGAP3 is involved in cell migration. Specific objectives comprised the following: • Characterise the expression levels of IQGAP3 in a panel of triple negative breast cancer cell lines and identify the most suitable cell models to further this study. • Assess the effect of modulating IQGAP3 expression in specific cell phenotypes such as cell morphology, random 2D migration and invadopodia activity. • Identify IQGAP3 binding partners and explore their functional significance in the context of triple negative breast cancer cell behaviour.
Project Aims. The primary objective of this thesis is to identify commonalities among the program participants who used the NHN from August 2011-June 2017, including: (1) demographic trends and (2) health status similarities. Moreover, this thesis will identify those who are using the NHN more frequently, high utilizers, and determine if there are differences among this group when compared to the regular utilizers of the NHN, specifically assess chronic condition statuses across groups. A secondary objective of this thesis is to examine NHN utilization longitudinally across the six years used in this analysis to assess the number of high utilizers within each school year, the number of years a child qualified as a high utilizer, and overall management of health between these two groups. Evidence suggests that it is necessary to assess commonalities among high utilizers and regular utilizers of the NHN to determine if the health efforts taken are effective and to determine if a SBHC, like Healthy Beginnings, is successful [23, 34]. Thus, this information will facilitate Healthy Beginnings to successfully implement a targeted approach [9, 50]. Commonalities are important to identify so that program coordinators can use this information to (1) develop ways to streamline the NHN’s process of managing the children’s health needs (i.e. if group settings would be a more effective and time-efficient way to present information), (2) identify who will be high utilizers during the enrollment process in future cohorts, and (3) assess if visits with the NHN are correlated with better health status among these children. Longitudinal assessment of each child’s involvement with the NHN can allow for program coordinators to track the changes in Healthy Beginnings participants’ health during the duration of the program. This analysis of current and past children enrolled in Healthy Beginnings System of Care will allow for program coordinators to have insight of future cohorts’ utilizers of the NHN and how to modify current approaches from information gleaned about NHN utilization patterns. Lastly, the information produced from this report will help in determining if implementing a System of Care in a program such as Head Start is successful in this population or how to make it more successful. Future programs can use the data in this report to gain a better understanding of how they can reach each child and meet every child’s health needs, and if that is done then children will be health...

Project Aims. For potential health service support workers to access a relevant and recognised qualification and apply it within the workplace • To engage more fully with other statutory or non-statutory public services through exposure to a qualification that would allow travel across care agencies. • To provide workplace opportunity with the potential of further development for those who would otherwise not consider care as a career option • To reflect the core elements of the Diversity and Inclusion Agenda within the context of Corporate Social Responsibility • To identify if the components of the 20-week course reflected the development of potential health care support workers at level 2. • To promote greater recognition within the existing workforce of the potential effects of work based learning • The course structure reflected nationally recognised educational standards and competencies and was aligned easily to the Career Framework. • Training received while on placement was competency based and although specific to the area of work, was based around general care principles and easily transferred within the organisation. • Committed input from NHSTayside managers allowed students entering the programme to be thoroughly exposed to NHSTayside clinical procedures in preparation for a career serving the local population. • Access to the SVQ for staff already employed by NHSTayside provided recognition for their competences in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework, reflected Personal and Departmental Development plans and provided a link to the national accreditation framework.
