Salary Schedule Application. 6.03.1 The schedule provides that the basic salary classifications of the teacher shall be determined by professional qualifications--training and experience. Placement on the salary schedule shall provide for:
6.03.1.1 All years of teaching service in another public, private, or parochial school unless the entry step and subsequent salary schedule advancement are determined otherwise through mutual written agreement between the Chardon Board of Education and the applicant. This agreement may only be made at the time of initial employment, at a salary level no lower than step 0 of the negotiated salary schedule for that year, and be placed on the appropriate degree level column for that year.
6.03.1.2 All years of active military service to a maximum of five (5) years.
6.03.1.3 All years of teaching service in the school district.
6.03.1.4 All years of substitute experience to a maximum of two (2) years unless the entry step and subsequent salary schedule advancement are determined otherwise through mutual written agreement between the Chardon Board of Education and the applicant. This agreement may only be made at the time of initial employment, at a salary level no lower than step 0 of the negotiated salary schedule for that year, and be placed on the appropriate degree level column for that year.
6.03.1.5 For the purpose of 6.03.1.1, 6.03.1.3, and 6.03.1.4, one hundred twenty (120) days shall constitute a year's service.
6.03.2 With respect to advancement on the salary schedule, and subject to the written approval of the Superintendent, credit hours after the B.A. and M.A. degrees are awarded may be either graduate or undergraduate credit hours. Such credit shall be applied to the salary schedule twice per year on a prorated basis starting with either the first pay of the first semester or the fourteenth (14th) pay for the second semester. Official transcripts indicating an increase in hours for advancement on the salary schedule must be received by the Superintendent no later than September 30th for advancement effective first semester and no later than January 30th for advancement effective second semester
Salary Schedule Application. A. BA+20: for a teacher to be placed on the BA+20 salary track the 20 semester hours or equivalent must be in an approved plan.
B. MA+15: for a teacher to be placed on the MA+15 salary track the 15 semester hours or equivalent must be taken after the completion of the requirements for a Master’s Degree. Beginning February 1, 2022, special education ancillary staff with a Master’s Degree that was conferred with 50-59 credits will be placed in the MA+15 salary track.
C. Specialist: teachers who possess two (2) Masters' Degrees in their teaching field may, following application and approval of the Department of Human Resources, be placed on the Specialist Schedule. A teacher who holds a Master's Degree which requires sixty (60) or more semester hours beyond the Bachelor's Degree will be paid on the Specialist salary track. A teacher who has earned her/his National Board Certification (NBCT) prior to May 1, 2019 or a teacher who earns her/his NBCT following this date, but who can show evidence of beginning the program prior to May 1, 2019, will be paid on the Specialist salary lane. Any teacher earning her/his NBCT subsequent to this date will advance one lane (at the same Step unless an annual advancement is applicable) on Salary Schedule – Appendix A. Any teacher who moves to the Specialist salary lane due to NBCT but allows her/his certification to lapse will return to their salary lane prior to NBCT.
D. New hires may be placed on the salary schedule commensurate with their experience.

a. All years of teaching service in another public school. All private school and substitute experience up to five (5) years each. The Superintendent and a teacher to be newly hired in the District may agree to a salary on the negotiated salary schedule which grants the teacher less service credit than the teacher would normally be entitled to pursuant to this provision or ORC 3317.13 and 3317.
Salary Schedule Application. 1. Credits earned prior to September 1 may be used for advancement on the schedule provided official transcripts are on file by September 30.
2. The District will provide a sick leave cash out by Board Policy.
3. Exceptions may be appealed to the Superintendent and then to the Board of Directors.
