Teachers as Substitutes a. Classes will be divided among other teachers at the same level, if the regular teacher agrees. The Building Principal will ask the teachers to volunteer in the most educationally feasible way. b. Teachers who are asked to substitute during their work day shall have the option of accepting or rejecting such a request, except in cases of emergency. Rejection of a request to substitute during a work day shall not be held against that teacher. c. The rate of any teacher (or group of teachers, if the class is split) who accepts a request by the Administration to cover or split a class of an absent teacher shall be Twenty Dollars ($20.00) for each class period covered. Teachers as Substitutes. When the need arises for a teacher to be used as a substitute for another teacher during his/her prep time, the teacher will be compensated at the appropriate portion of a certified substitute rate.
Teachers as Substitutes. 1. Pay Rate. The District should establish a rate of $25 per scheduled class period/hour for all certified staff who cover substitute duty when a regular substitute is not available.

Teachers may be asked to substitute for classes and/or supervisory assignments other than their assigned duties only when an extreme emergency exists (i.e., a qualified substitute cannot be employed). Within ten (10) school days after the start of the school year, all teachers shall be canvassed and a list shall be developed in each building identifying those teachers willing to substitute during their conference and preparation and/or duty periods. Those teachers identified on such list will be asked to substitute during their conference and planning periods. No teacher on the list will be required to substitute during his/her conference and preparation and/or duty periods without such teacher's consent except in extreme emergencies (i.e., when a certificated/licensed substitute cannot be employed). The teachers on the list will be used on a rotating basis for purposes of substituting. 2. Teachers substituting during their conference and preparation and/or duty periods shall be compensated at the hourly rate of .0007 of the BA base salary prorated for time spent, with a minimum of thirty (30) minutes. 3. Upon approval of the building administration, affected elementary building classroom teachers who accept students from another teacher's class for the majority of any school day will be paid a stipend in the amount of .0012 of the BA base salary for each approved day of such substitution. 4. The practice of teachers mutually agreeing to cover or substitute for each other in emergency situations shall not be affected by this provision. However, as in the past, such substituting shall be with the knowledge and approval of the building principal.
Teachers as Substitutes. The Board agrees to maintain a process for acquiring a substitute teacher. The district will provide staff with the expectations annually for how to report an absence. Once a teacher has reported unavailability it shall be the responsibility of administration to arrange for a substitute teacher. The use of teachers as substitutes shall be avoided except in cases of emergency. In the event that teachers covered by this Agreement are used as substitutes on an emergency or voluntary basis when asked by the administration or office staff, the reimbursement will be compensated with the established hourly rate for professional development. For the purposes of this contract, “substitute” is defined as monitoring students/classes during prep hour/class period or lunch, or by taking extra classes or students during regular instruction time.
Teachers as Substitutes. The Board will pay $85 per day to a classroom teacher if called upon to substitute by doubling classes for a day, or if substitution involves less than a full day at the rate of $85 per day and $25 per hour. The teacher may choose one of the following options for credit: a. The teacher may choose to be credited with medical/illness leave time, equivalent to the nearest half-hour (1/2) for the amount of time such teacher acted as a substitute. Six (6) hours of medical/illness leave time is equivalent to one (1) day's medical/illness leave. Credit will be given to half and whole medical/illness days as they occur. At the end of the year, uneven medical/illness leave hours will automatically be compensated by pay. Therefore, all service records will be cleared for that school year. b. The teacher may choose to be credited with pay at $50 per hour (credited at the end of each semester), equivalent to the nearest half-hour (1/2) for the amount of time such teacher acted as a substitute. c. When a teacher has one (1) to ten (10) students added to their classroom for a full day due to another teacher being absent, that teacher will receive $50 for being a teacher as a substitute. When a teacher has eleven (11) or more students added to their classroom for a full day due to another teacher being absent, that teacher will receive $75 for being a teacher as a substitute. d. If a teacher takes all the students from another class for a full day that teacher will receive $150 for being a teacher as a substitute. See form in Appendix E.
