Absences Chargeable to Sick Leave. Absences due to causes listed below may be charged as specified to sick leave. Absence in excess of available sick leave days or for reasons other than those specified will result in loss of pay.

Absences Chargeable to Sick Leave. The use of sick leave may be authorized only when an employee is absent because of: a. illness, injury, or disability related to pregnancy; b. exposure to contagious disease; c. dental, eye, or other physical or medical examinations or treatments by a licensed practitioner; d. illness or injury in the immediate family; and Up to five (5) days of accrued sick leave credit may be used for family care during any one calendar year. e. death of a person in the immediate family. Depending upon the circumstances involved, up to five (5) days of accrued sick leave may be authorized at the discretion of the President for bereavement. When one or more deaths occur in a calendar year, up to five (5) days of accrued sick leave credits may be authorized for each such death. The five (5) days referred to in Provisions 22.2, d. and e. above, shall apply to five (5) days of the employee's regularly scheduled workdays up to a maximum of forty (40) hours.

Absences required by the confining illness or injury to members of the immediate family, who in this instance shall include the following: spouse, documented same sex domestic partner if permitted by law, children, parents, or parents-in-law; absences to be limited to five (5) days per incident. Absences required by the illness or injury to other members of the immediate or extended family, who in this instance shall include dependents, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers and sisters; absences to be limited to four (4) days per incident. Daily sick leave will be charged in half-day increments, with a half-day being defined as 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., or 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; not to exceed one (1) day.

Working days shall not include Saturdays, Sundays, statutory holidays or annual vacation. No salary payments shall be made to the member for absence beyond the total number of day’s credit in the sick leave plan.

  • Absences and Leaves In the event that one member of the job/time sharing arrangement is off due to illness or injury or goes on any other leave of absence, the remaining partner will endeavour to cover all of the absent partner’s shifts for the duration of the absence.
