Aprons. The Aprons are those sections running adjacent to all runways and taxiways. Most of the aprons consist of runway lights and sign boards. The Aprons make contact with the asphalt. The scope therefore requires a much shorter cutting height and a monthly frequency to ensure that no lights or structures are obscured. It is also critical to maintain the edge of the grass to prevent any of the grass coming closer than 100mm from the asphalt. This can be done either chemically or mechanically or a combination of the two. The total area classified as Aprons is 252 128m2 or 25.21 hectares. The section that must be done during night shift totals 15755m2 or 1.57 hectares. Generally, 3 nights per months are made available by ACSA to complete all scheduled night work.
