Backfilling. The purpose of this section is to provide opportunities for employees to temporarily increase their number of hours of work, temporarily increase their wages, and/or acquire experience in a different job assignment.

Backfilling a. Furnish equipment, labor, and when necessary material required for backfilling the pipe line trenches according to Section 207, and as follows:

Backfilling. (i) Excavated material used as backfilling to excavations or completed structures shall be free from rubbish, vegetation, clods and lumps and shall be approved by the Engineer. The approved materials shall be placed in layers, not exceeding 225 mm in depth before compaction and shall be compacted to a dry density not less than ninety-five percent of the maximum dry density obtained by the test in Part VII of I.S. 2720 or to such higher density as is specified hereinafter. During compaction the backfill shall have a uniform moisture content equal to or a little above the optimum moisture content recorded in the I.S.
Backfilling. Backfilling will not commence until a representative from the Public Works Department has performed an inspection. Any portion of the side sewer covered prior to inspection will be uncovered at the permit holder’s expense within two (2) days after notice to do so. Trenches will be carefully backfilled by tamping sand or other approved material to a depth of six (6) inches above the pipe to avoid damaging the pipe. All backfill material between the public sewer and the property line must be approved by the Director of Public Works, water- settled or mechanically tamped in six-inch layers to minimize settlement. Any settlement occurring within twelve months of backfilling will be corrected at the expense of the permit holder.

Backfilling. Any trench or excavation made within any street, alley or other public way shall be backfilled in accordance with regulations prepared by the city engineer and approved by the board of public works. The board may hold a public hearing on the proposed regulations if it deems it necessary, and notice of such hearing shall be given as the board shall determine. Upon approval of the proposed regulations by the council and published, in the same manner as ordinances are approved and published, the regulations shall have the same force and effect as any other provision of this section and any violation thereof shall subject the permittee to the same penalty provided for in section 14-37 of this Code. The regulations may be changed or amended in the same manner.

This is normally done on an allowance specified in the contract. Builder is not responsible for settling. Finish Grading Using mechanical equipment and the dirt on the site, the grader establishes the yard grade within two inches of final landscaped grade with respect to the building, walks, drive and adjoining properties. Depending on the terms of the contract this would ordinarily include the entire lot. This is often contracted for by the owner, who is then responsible, and is the step to be performed just prior to landscaping.
