Bi-Lingual Pay. The County shall provide Bi-lingual pay at 75 cents per hour provided the employee has both demonstrated proficiency in the language to the satisfaction of the Department Head and whose Department Head requires them to use a foreign language in the course of their employment. Payment of bilingual pay is at the sole discretion of the Department Head. Assignment or non- assignment of bilingual duties is excluded from Article 24 Grievance.

Bi-Lingual Pay. Employees possessing relative fluency in a language other than English may qualify for foreign language duty. Employees who qualify for foreign language duty will receive a stipend of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) per month, when the following criteria are met: 1. The Sheriff, at his or her discretion, approves the employee in writing for foreign language duty. Employees shall not be denied for whim or capricious reasons. 2. The employees using foreign language skills during his or her own regular duties, including call outs; 3. The employee makes a written request to participate in the foreign language duty; and 4. The employee establishes that he or she possesses sufficient fluency in the language by demonstrating conversational fluency, which will be evaluated by a County approved interpreter or language assessment program. The County shall issue a proficiency test to employees who request to participate in the foreign language duty program set out within this provision. Issuance of the proficiency test shall occur at a time and place as determined by the County. To remain eligible for foreign language duty, employees must maintain proficiency in the language. Proficiency shall be demonstrated every two (2) years.
Bi-Lingual Pay. An employee who is designated in writing by the department head to provide bilingual services as a required component of his/her job duties shall be paid fifty ($50) per month Bilingual Pay. Bilingual pay may be provided for proficiency in any language that has been recommended by the department head in writing and has been determined by the County to be relevant to the delivery of services to the public. In order to be eligible to receive Bilingual Pay, an employee must demonstrate his/her proficiency in the designated language by passage of written and/or oral examination resulting in a language proficiency certificate, at no cost to the employee. At that time the Director of Human Resources & Risk Management will certify the employee to receive the Bilingual Pay. Payment shall be effective at the beginning of the pay period following certification. The County may periodically review positions covered by the bilingual provision to determine the number and location of required positions. The County may require retesting and recertification. Bilingual pay may be removed when no longer required of the position or the individual no longer meets fluency requirements. Employees shall no longer be eligible for pay when they are on extended Federal or State leave.
Bi-Lingual Pay. Commissioned and non-commissioned members, who are certified and assigned as bilingual officers, in accordance with the procedures established by the City, shall receive as additional pay the sum of fifty dollars ($50) per month. Members who are certified and assigned with advanced expertise may be paid additional compensation up to one hundred dollars ($100) per month, in accordance with published standards and procedures.
Bi-Lingual Pay. The employer agrees to begin to implement Bi-Lingual pay for Spanish and Russian speakers at a rate of fifty dollars ($50.00) per month. Testing details to be worked out by the two parties.
Bi-Lingual Pay. The City shall pay 3% above base salary to employees who are approved by their department head and the Director of Human Resources to become certified by the County of Los Angeles or other agencies approved by the City. The certification of tests for written and oral proficiency in Spanish, Farsi, Korean, Russian, Sign or any other language designated by the City. Those employees who receive a bi-lingual pay will be required to speak the alternate language in the course and scope of their employment. In addition, if receiving the pay, an employee may be asked to assist in translating even if unrelated to his/her specific job duties. The initial fees for any testing required to obtain certification shall be borne by the City. If the employee fails to obtain the certification, subsequent attempts will be paid for by the employees.
Bi-Lingual Pay. An employee who passes a Department approved conversational proficiency examination in a foreign language annually shall receive a monthly payment equivalent to 3% of the employees monthly base rate.
Bi-Lingual Pay. Employees certified as bilingual (Spanish) shall be eligible to receive fifty ($.50) cents per hour in bilingual pay. The certification process will confirm that employees are fluent at the street conversational level in speaking Spanish. Employees certified shall receive bilingual pay the first full pay period following certification. Additional languages may be certified for compensation pursuant to this section by the Fire Chief.
