Bi-Lingual Pay. A. Employees possessing relative fluency in a language other than English, who are assigned in writing by the sheriff or his/her designee to use such ability for special assignment, shall receive an additional allowance to the affected employee’s base pay of $25.00 per month.

Bi-Lingual Pay. The County shall provide Bi-lingual pay at 75 cents per hour provided the employee has both demonstrated proficiency in the language to the satisfaction of the Department Head and whose Department Head requires them to use a foreign language in the course of their employment. Payment of bilingual pay is at the sole discretion of the Department Head. Assignment or non- assignment of bilingual duties is excluded from Article 24 Grievance.
Bi-Lingual Pay. Employees possessing relative fluency in a language other than English may qualify for foreign language duty. Employees who qualify for foreign language duty will receive a stipend of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) per month, when the following criteria are met:
Bi-Lingual Pay. An employee who is designated in writing by the department head to provide bilingual services as a required component of his/her job duties shall be paid fifty ($50) per month Bilingual Pay. Bilingual pay may be provided for proficiency in any language that has been recommended by the department head in writing and has been determined by the County to be relevant to the delivery of services to the public. In order to be eligible to receive Bilingual Pay, an employee must demonstrate his/her proficiency in the designated language by passage of written and/or oral examination resulting in a language proficiency certificate, at no cost to the employee. At that time the Director of Human Resources & Risk Management will certify the employee to receive the Bilingual Pay. Payment shall be effective at the beginning of the pay period following certification. The County may periodically review positions covered by the bilingual provision to determine the number and location of required positions. The County may require retesting and recertification. Bilingual pay may be removed when no longer required of the position or the individual no longer meets fluency requirements. Employees shall no longer be eligible for pay when they are on extended Federal or State leave.
Bi-Lingual Pay. Commissioned and non-commissioned members, who are certified and assigned as bilingual officers, in accordance with the procedures established by the City, shall receive as additional pay the sum of fifty dollars ($50) per month. Members who are certified and assigned with advanced expertise may be paid additional compensation up to one hundred dollars ($100) per month, in accordance with published standards and procedures.
Bi-Lingual Pay. An employee who is determined to be fluent in an eligible language, as determined by the City (e.g., American Sign Language, Spanish, Russian, or an appropriate Asian dialect) shall receive in addition to their regular salary an amount equal to five percent (5%) of their base salary. Fluency is to be determined by the City every other year, based upon a standard testing program, which the City will implement. The provisions of this Article are not subject to multiple incentives for multiple languages.

Bi-Lingual Pay. The City shall pay 3% above base salary to employees who are approved by their department head and the Director of Human ResourcesAssistant Director of Administrative Services/Human Service to become certified by the County of Los Angeles or other agencies approved by the City. The certification of tests for written and oral proficiency in Spanish, Farsi, Korean, Russian, Sign or any other language designated by the City. Those employees who receive a bi-lingual pay will be required to speak the alternate language in the course and scope of their employment. In addition, if receiving the pay, an employee may be asked to assist in translating even if unrelated to his/her specific job duties. The initial fees for any testing required to obtain certification shall be borne by the City. If the employee fails to obtain the certification, subsequent attempts will be paid for by the employees. The parties agree that to the extent permitted by law, the compensation for Bilingual Pay is special compensation and shall be reported as such pursuant to Title 2 CCR, Section 571(a)(4) and Section 571.1(b)(3) Bilingual Premium.
Bi-Lingual Pay. Police officers proficient in Spanish or sign language shall be eligible to receive $75.00 per pay period for demonstrated proficiency by passing an examination for the communication skill. This benefit is not cumulative and will only be paid for one demonstrated proficiency. The place, time and criteria for passing the exam will be established by the Civil Service Director. Any direct cost of the Test will be borne by the employee. A one-time reimbursement will be made to the employee upon achievement of a passing score on the test.
