CLASS SIZE AND WORKLOAD. The Montana School Accreditation Standards are published in the Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM), Title 10, Chapters 54 and 55. Class Size and work load are defined in 10.55.712 and 10.55.713. Language in those administrative rules shall be used as the minimum standards for class size and work load. Workload is defined as: 1) the number of clock hours per week of assigned student responsibility (in 1993-94 - no more than 28 hours per week) 2) the number of students ( in 1993-94 - no more than 150 assigned students per day) assigned per day for middle and high school teachers excluding study halls, music, physical education, library, and guidance. If the Xxxxxxxxxx School District(s) are granted class size or workload deferrals, the standard to be used will be the alternative allowed by the Board of Public Education.

CLASS SIZE AND WORKLOAD. A. The District and the Association agree that the pupil-teacher ratio is an important factor in maintaining quality education. The parties acknowledge that larger pupil-teacher ratios may diminish time available for addressing individual student needs, or may limit the scope of class activities. The District further acknowledges the importance of heterogeneously balanced class rosters.
CLASS SIZE AND WORKLOAD. Each week during September, the Human 31 Resources Department, in conjunction with each building, will review and monitor 32 student and staff counts. Additional certificated staff will be allocated as quickly as 33 possible. The Human Resources director shall meet to review initial staff allocations and 34 student counts with the Association by the 8th student day. Adjustments to staff 35 allocation will be provided to the Association president weekly. Staff member allocations 36 for each building, consistent with the above formulas, will be established within two (2) 37 working days of the October state enrollment count date of each year. Adjustments 38 after that date will be determined monthly by the director of Human Resources 39 consistent with the above formulas.

Equalization of Class and Caseload Sizes Envision Education shall make an effort to equalize class size and caseload within grade levels/departments. When, in the judgment of the teacher, one or more of the students in the class is in need of additional academic and behavior support, that teacher is encouraged to reach out to their Principal to discuss support for the teacher. Upon request, reasons for unequal class size and class preparations shall be provided in writing to Envision United as well as efforts being taken, if any, to remedy the situation. Addition of Students If there is a need to move more than 3 kids in or out of a class after the first 10 school days of each semester, the teacher shall be given 2 work days’ notice except in extreme circumstances. If a student who requires second language support is assigned or moved into a class, the principal or designee shall meet with the teacher within 2 work days to provide second language support except in extreme circumstances.

Overloads shall first be equalized throughout the building. Additional class overloads, in excess of 10% in a building, shall then be equalized throughout the district. When the overload percentage (10%) for any grade level/class is exceeded, a new class will be formed to reduce overloaded class sizes. Should the state reduce the allowable number of students per classroom from what was allowable in May, 1991, 1. No more than 20 students in kindergarten; 2. No more than 20 students in grade 1; 3. No more than 20 students in grade 2; 4. No more than 28 students in grades 3 & 4; 5. No more than 30 students in grades 5 through 12; 6. The class size limitations listed above shall exclude study halls, music, physical education, library, guidance; 7. No more than 150 students assigned a teacher per day in the middle school and the high school excluding study halls, music, physical education, library, and guidance.
