Faculty Roles and Responsibilities.
A. Faculty Roles and Responsibilities The Board of Trustees and the Faculty Senate recognize that the roles of faculty are varied, the principle of professionalism does not lend itself to a fixed number of hours, and that the education of students is a major responsibility of the College. To this end, faculty will embrace four categories of responsibilities:
1) Teaching & Learning, 2) Professional Development, 3) Service to the College and/or the Community,
Faculty Roles and Responsibilities. Faculty Roles and Responsibilities in Academic Matters By virtue of its professional preparation and its central concern with learning, teaching and scholarship, the faculty will exercise primary responsibility in academic matters (e.g., curriculum, subject matter, methods of instruction). The enumeration of certain rights and privileges of faculty members in this Agreement shall not be construed to deny or diminish the existing rights, privileges, and responsibilities of faculty members to participate directly in the formation and recommendation of educational policy (i.e., academic matters). The Administration shall maintain and utilize appropriate mechanisms consistent with current practices for eliciting advice from the faculty on academic matters and may charge appropriate faculty groups and individuals with academic responsibilities consistent with the terms and provisions of this Agreement and M.G.L. Chapter 150E.
Faculty Roles and Responsibilities. As a faculty member of SFiAM, I understand and agree to uphold the mission of the school, its core beliefs, and its core practices, as outlined below. At San ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Institute for Applied Media (SFiAM), all stakeholders collaborate to create a place of learning that empowers students to become functional, prepared, and innovative communicators for the demanding global requirements of the future. SFiAM provides a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member develops communication, technological, and leadership skills that ▇▇▇▇▇▇ self-confidence and supports personal growth. SFiAM students learn through rigorous project-based learning modalities that are inherent to the pilot school model. Students are challenged to develop problem-solving and interpersonal skills to succeed in the 21st Century. SFiAM is a safe, clean, and friendly environment where students graduate media-literate with a strong foundation in language arts, mathematics, social studies, health, and science.
Faculty Roles and Responsibilities. Faculty Roles and Responsibilities in Personnel Matters The faculty shall have primary responsibility in the area of personnel matters. This shall mean the capacity to initiate or review faculty personnel recommendations. Academic administrative officials may make a recommendation or decision counter to the original faculty recommendation only in exceptional circumstances and with compelling reasons in written detail which shall specifically address the content of that recommendation as well as the established standards and criteria. The faculty shall have the right to grieve based on the terms and conditions of this Agreement any modification or reversal of such recommendations.

To this end, faculty will embrace four (4) categories of responsibilities: 1) Teaching & Learning, 2) Professional Development, 3) Service to the College and/or the Community, 4) Curriculum and Classroom Management. Therefore, the roles and responsibilities of the faculty include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Teaching and Learning
a. Faculty shall create effective learning environments for all students.
b. Faculty shall maintain an understanding of how their courses and programs fit into the career preparation of students in a broad sense. This understanding is best framed by reference to the most current Degree Qualifications Profile (DQP) framework. The current five (5) broad areas of the DQP are: ● Broad and Integrative Knowledge ● Applied and Collaborative Learning ● Civic and Global Learning ● Specialized Knowledge ● Intellectual Skills The College and Faculty Senate recognize this broad understanding of career preparation is important not only in the Applied Associate degree programs, but in the transfer degree programs as well and that faculty need to understand how their courses and programs transfer and prepare students for the next phase in their education.
c. Faculty shall teach assigned courses, develop course content, and other appropriate instructional material, consistent with the College’s adopted student learning outcomes. In those areas where more than one (1) faculty member teaches the same course, the student learning outcomes listed on the syllabi must be consistent with those approved by the Curriculum Committee.
d. Faculty shall meet classes at the time and location scheduled. Any changes to the time and location shall have the prior approval of the appropriate instructional administrator. This includes any instructional journey. Classes may temporarily move to other locations on the same campus. However, the new location must be prominently posted on the board or door of the regularly scheduled location on the class Moodle shell.
e. Faculty shall provide each student with a copy of the syllabus that is consistent with the master course syllabus approved by the Curriculum Committee for that course, and created using Simple Syllabus. If ano...
