Homework is an essential part of the learning process. Study and review are as vital and necessary as written work. Parents should provide proper conditions in the home, and as far as possible, a specific time wherein assignments can be done efficiently and accurately. If a student fails to turn in an assignment, a homework notice will be issued. Students are still to make up work when they earn a homework notice. Homework assignments are written on the board in each homeroom. All students are expected to have an assignment notebook for homework. It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work that is missed due to absence. When a student is ill all homework assignments, as assigned by the teacher, are expected to be completed. Usually a period of two days is given for completion of homework. However, more time may be allotted for extended absences. Parents should make teachers aware of any such extenuating circumstances. Parents are strongly encouraged to pick up books and assignments when a student must be absent. All assignment requests must be called in to the office before 10:00 a.m. Books and assignments may be picked up from the school office between 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Students who consistently choose to not complete homework and assignments will be subject to a Parent-Teacher-Principal conference. Academic probation agreements, and other consequences, including a request for the student to leave SJS are possible for consistent non-compliance. Homework is a necessary tool in the educational process. The student who successfully learns the process of completing homework also is mastering self-discipline, independence, initiative, and responsibility. Grading Scale. The following is the grading scale that is mandated by the Diocese of Joliet. Students in the Preschool and Early Childhood Care Program receive formal reports from the school after each trimester. Students in Grades K-3 use the Joliet Diocesan standard based report card indicating student progress in terms 4, 3, 2, and 1. Grading Scale. The School will issue progress reports every nine weeks. Report cards will also be issued by the School every nine weeks. Half credits may be earned upon successful completion of a semester or at any time during the year if competency is achieved in the Sponsor approved technology based curriculum. The state adopted grading scale and the District's Student Progression Plan will be used for assessing student grades. An overall GPA of 2.0 is required for graduation. Failing grades may be forgiven for courses that a student re-takes and makes a grade of "C" or better. Determinations regarding promotion, retention or administrative assignment shall be made by the School in accordance with the terms of the Sponsor's Student Progression Plan.

If a student receives an “I” for a course, the student will be required to contact the School director, set up a schedule for completion of requirements, and then complete the requirements.
