Gratuity Plan. 10.11.1 Gratuity credits are based on the calendar year. For the purposes of accumulating gratuity credits, the year will be divided into four (4) distinct periods: • 1 January to 31 March • 1 April to 30 June • 1 July to 30 September • 1 October to 31 December All dates are inclusive.
10.11.2 For each period described in Clause 10.11.1, employees will be given the following credits: • One (1) day for no absence through illness. • One-half (1/2) day for one-half (1/2) day absence through illness.
Gratuity Plan. (a) Effective April 1, 1999 current Employees shall qualify for Gratuity Plan credits based on twelve percent (12%) of unused annual banked Sick Leave per calendar year. Previous credits earned will not be affected by this change. Effective April 1, 1999, new Employees shall qualify for Gratuity Plan credits based on the following: • 0% of unused annual banked Sick Leave for the first (1st) year; • 5% of unused annual banked Sick Leave for the second (2nd) year; • 12% of unused annual banked Sick Leave for the third (3rd) year and beyond. Gratuity Credits can be withdrawn in whole or in part after five (5) years of continuous service in cash or, on approval of the Director of Library Services, as additional vacation. Gratuity credits can be accumulated to a maximum total of 120 days.
(b) Payment of the Gratuity in cash shall be computed at the time of withdrawal as follows:
Gratuity Plan. (a) A member shall be credited with eight (8) hours for each complete quarter of every calendar year worked and not more than thirty-two (32) hours for each calendar year worked by him/her. An additional credit of eight (8) hours shall be given for each completed calendar year during which the member was not absent on paid sick leave.
(b) A deduction is made from the member's current years' gratuity credits for all hours absent on sick leave with pay, except that such deduction shall not exceed thirty-two (32) hours in any one (1) calendar year, or eight (8) hours in any quarter of any one calendar year or for any one illness. The total gratuity credited to each member at December 31st of each calendar year will remain to such member's credit regardless of time lost in any subsequent year through illness or any other reason. In circumstances where an injury is not covered by Workers' Compensation solely because the member is off for less than the qualifying period, time off shall be considered as sick leave. For the purpose of this clause a deduction shall be made from the member's accumulated sick leave credits but this deduction shall not affect the member's gratuity benefits.
Gratuity Plan. D Bereavement
Gratuity Plan. A Gratuity Plan shall enable employees upon leaving the service of the Board, with a minimum of five (5) years' service, and an attained age of fifty (50), to be paid for 50% of their unused accumulated sick leave to a maximum of one hundred (100) days, based on their basic salary on termination. Payment shall be made on termination or at any time during the subsequent twelve (12) months on the written request of the employee, such request to be submitted by their termination date.
Gratuity Plan. The current Gratuity Plan banks will cease to accumulate as of December 31, 2016. The accumulated gratuity banks as of December 31, 2016 will be recorded. Future deduction from these banks shall be done in accordance with Clauses 14.8.10 and 14.8.11. Articles 14.8.10 and 14.8.11 shall only have application to the gratuity banks recorded as of December 31, 2016.
14.8.1 Temporary and casual employees who have elected benefit coverage and permanent employees are eligible to participate in the Gratuity Plan described in Article 14.8.
14.8.2 Gratuity credits are based on the calendar year which is divided into quarters: • January 1 to March 31; • April 1 to June 30; • July 1 to September 30; • October 1 to December 31.
14.8.3 Employees earn 7 hours of gratuity credit for each quarter in Clause 14.7.2.
14.8.4 The Gratuity credit referred to in Clause 14.8.3 is reduced by an hour for every hour that employees are absent due to illness.
14.8.5 Accumulated Gratuity credits will not be reduced due to illness in any future quarter.
14.8.6 Employees may accumulate a maximum of 840 hours of Gratuity credits.
14.8.7 Employees who regularly work a 40-hour week accumulate 8 hours of Gratuity credit for each quarter referred to in Clause 14.8.2 and their maximum accumulation is 960 hours.
14.8.8 Gratuity credits will be prorated for part-time employees.
14.8.9 Illness in Article 14.8 means non-occupational sickness and injury.
14.8.10 Employees will be paid for accumulated Gratuity credits as follows:
a) upon retirement on or after reaching the minimum retirement age; or
b) upon retirement with a permanent disability; or
c) upon termination of employment; or
d) upon receipt of benefits under the Long-Term Disability Plan; or
e) upon request after the completion of 1 year of service, effective October 1, 1995; or
f) in the event of the death of employees, after the completion of 1 or more years of service, to their designated beneficiary or estate.
14.8.11 Employees may use their accumulated Gratuity credits as paid leave, subject to the following:
a) The minimum leave is 1 hour and the maximum 140 hours, pro-rated for employees who regularly work a 40-hour week.
b) Leaves are subject to the approval of the Supervisor and will be taken during a period that will not affect the efficient operation of the department.

Gratuity Plan. The following applies to Regular Full-Time Employees and is effective from the date the Disability Plan is implemented:
