Leave for Public Service. (a) An employee who is elected as an MPP or MP shall be entitled to a full-time unpaid leave of absence, for the term of office, to a maximum of five (5) years. Seniority shall not accrue during such leave; group benefits participation may continue, at the employee's own expense. The leave may be terminated by the employee with two (2) months' written notice.
(b) An employee who is elected to Public Office, other than specified in (a) above, shall be granted unpaid leave, full or part-time, appropriate to the needs of the office. Seniority shall accrue during such leave; group benefits participation may continue, at the employee’s own expense, pro-rated appropriately in the case of part-time leave. The leave may be terminated by the employee with two (2) months’ written notice.
Leave for Public Service. A tenured teacher may be granted Leave for Public Service on an annual basis if elected or appointed to public office, subject to sufficient notice to make adequate provision for replacement. Such leave may be extended beyond a second year upon recommendation of the President and approval of the Board. Request for extension must be made in writing at least sixty (60) days before the expiration date of the original Leave.
Leave for Public Service. 1. Any teacher shall be paid his/her regular salary for the period of any absence for which he/she is serving jury duty without any deduction from other leave provisions.
2. A teacher shall be allowed a leave of absence without loss of pay and without deduction from any leave provision for all absences when he/she is subpoenaed as a witness in any case concerning the School Corporation.
3. Subject to the approval of the Superintendent a teacher may be allowed time off without loss of pay or deduction from leave or deduction from leave accumulation for necessary court appearances, performance of other public duties, obligations or services.

Leave for Public Service. Leave of absence for elected public office shall be granted by the Director.
Leave for Public Service. 25.01 A regular employee who is a candidate for a municipal council, school commission, administrative council of a hospital or of a local community service centre, may have an unpaid leave of not more than thirty-five (35) working days. Within these thirty-five (35) working days the employee may take accumulated days of vacation.
25.02 A regular employee who is a candidate in a provincial or federal election is subject to the relevant election law.
25.03 The regular employee who is elected during a provincial or federal election is given unpaid leave for the duration of his first term of office. Upon his return, the University will reinstate the employee into a position equivalent to that which he held prior to his departure. If his previous position has been abolished, the provisions of Article 16 (Employment Security) will apply.
25.04 An employee who wishes to take part in organizing an election campaign may, after agreement with the University, use his accumulated days of vacation or take an unpaid leave.
25.05 The employee who is elected or assigned to public office on a municipal council, a school board, a CEGEP or University board, a public health and social service institution, or to a civil function of a similar nature, who must occasionally be absent from work for meetings or official activities of his office, will be entitled to leave without pay. In such a case, a written request stating the employee's name, and the nature and probable length of the absence must be sent to the University at least two (2) working days (under normal circumstances) before the commencement of the absence.
Leave for Public Service a. Upon approval of the Board, an administrator may be allowed to serve the term of office to which elected, reelected, appointed, or reappointed at any level of government. Such leave shall be granted for a single term of office and must have Board approval for any extension beyond that term.
b. No more than one administrator shall be allowed such leave in any one year.
c. Notification of the administrator's return from such leave shall be made in writing to the Human Resources Office by November 1 or March 1.
d. An administrator on such leave shall receive no pay from the Board.
e. An administrator returning from such leave after a period of less than one (1) year shall be placed on the salary step which would have been attained had leave not been taken.
f. An administrator who returns from this type of leave of absence after a minimum time of one (1) year shall receive during the subsequent contractual year, the salary of the immediate next step above that occupied in the last year of active service.
g. Accumulated benefits are carried forward from effective date of leave and are credited upon return to employment at the termination of the leave. Payment for accumulated sick leave days may not be granted during the term of the leave.
Leave for Public Service. 31.01 A regular employee who is a candidate for a municipal council, a school board commission, hospital administrative board or a local community centre, may have a leave without pay up to thirty-five (35) working days. The employee may take any accumulated vacation within those thirty-five (35) days.
31.02 A regular employee who is a candidate to a federal or provincial seat is subject to the electoral law.
31.03 A regular employee elected to a federal or provincial seat is entitled to leave without pay for the duration of the first mandate. When the employee returns to work, the University will reinstate the employee to their former position. However, if the employee's position has been abolished, article 12 or 22 applies as is appropriate

31.05 A regular employee who is elected to public office on a municipal council, a school board, a CEGEP or University board, a public health or social services institution, or to a civil function of a similar nature, who must occasionally be absent from work for meetings or official activities of their office, will be entitled to leave without pay. In such a case, a written request stating the employee's name, and the nature and probable length of the absence, must be sent to the immediate supervisor, with a copy to Human Resources (Benefits Office) as a general rule at least five (5) working days prior to the date of the beginning of the leave.
Leave for Public Service. 1. Upon recommendation of the President of the College, a tenured employee may be granted leave for public service, subject to sufficient notice to make adequate provisions
a. for replacement. Such leaves may include, but are not limited to campaign for public office,
b. service as a public official, or
c. service in the Peace Corps.
2. Public service leave shall be limited to two (2) years duration and shall not place the College under financial obligation to the employee during the term of the leave. The returning employee will be placed at one (1) step above the level of the last contractual year upon return to the College.
3. The College has at its option a period of two (2) years in which to adjust the divisional schedules to approximate as nearly as possible the prior instructional assignments of the returning employee.
4. Employees on leave for public service shall have the right to maintain all fringe benefits at no cost to the College.
