NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. 8.1 In accordance with X.O.1 “New Teacher Induction” and part X.2 “Teacher Performance Appraisal” of the Education Act, and in Ontario Regulation 99/02, as amended and Regulation 266/06, all new Teachers must successfully complete the New Teacher Induction Program.
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. All teachers who are new to the School District are required to attend the School District's teacher induction program prior to the beginning of the school year as a condition of employment. New teachers hired after the beginning of a school year are required to participate in the next available training session as a condition of employment. Each new teacher will be paid at the rate as described for staff development in APPENDIX II for his/her required attendance in the teacher induction program.
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. New Teacher Induction is a professional development program designed to support teachers in their first three years in the District. The training helps teachers become familiar with District policies, procedures, and priorities related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. Probationary teachers will be expected to participate in a New Teacher Induction Program. Up to twenty
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. The appraisal of new teachers shall be conducted in accordance with the Education Act, Regulations and the Ministry of Education Manual for Performance of New Teachers 2008 and Inductions Elements Manual 2008.
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. 24.01 The board shall provide access to the New Teacher Induction Program for Occasional Teachers in accordance with Ministry of Education regulations.
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. 24.01 Subject to the level of Ministry funding for NTIP, Principals will provide release time for the new teachers and their mentors to:
i. Develop their plans for mentoring
ii. Observe in one another’s or if appropriate other classrooms and debrief the experience, which may include for example a lesson, an afternoon or a class.
iii. Provide opportunities for the new teachers and mentors to attend presentations and/or training together and time to apply their learning.
24.02 The mentor will be responsible for meeting with the new teacher to develop an Individual NTIP Strategy specific to his/her needs similar to the annual learning plan process wherein staff determine their learning needs. Together, the mentor and the new teacher will collaboratively determine the new teacher’s individual needs and will document the Strategy, using the Ministry’s “New Teachers: Individual NTIP Strategy” form. This Strategy may be revised accordingly throughout the year as needs change.
24.03 Mentoring may be conducted in a number of different ways including, one-on-one, large or small group, and team mentoring, all of which take into consideration the needs of the new teacher, the size of the school, the availability of mentors, the unique requirements of the Board, similar assignments and staff demographics.
24.04 The relationship between the mentor and the new teacher is a supportive one with the mentor acting as a role model, coach and advisor to the new teacher, sharing his/her experience and knowledge about teaching on an ongoing basis.
24.05 Mentoring is non-evaluative and neither will the mentor be subject to evaluation.
24.06 Experienced teachers who wish to mentor will do so, on a voluntary basis.
a) Teachers interested in volunteering to serve as a mentor will complete the Board form and submit it to the appropriate administrator of the NTIP program. The only requirements are a minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience, the completion of the teacher performance appraisal process and a commitment to a minimum of one (1) year as mentor.
b) Depending on geographic needs, the appropriate administrator will compile a list of names from which new teachers will be afforded the opportunity to select a mentor. This list, a copy of which will be provided to the OECTA President, will include the mentor’s name, grade and profile and will be posted within the first week of the school year.

NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. 01a) It is understood that the New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) shall be described in the New Teacher Induction Program Induction Elements Manual (2006).
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. 17.01 The appraisal of new teachers shall be conducted in accordance with
a) No member of the bargaining unit shall participate in the Performance Appraisal of New Teachers.
b) The Principal shall ensure that mentors are recruited, selected and matched according to the Board’s established process.
c) Upon receipt of the Summative Report Form of a Performance Appraisal of New Teachers, the new teacher may add comments to it, sign it (with the express understanding that such signature is only an acknowledgement of having received a copy thereof) and return it to the Principal for placement in the teacher’s personnel file at the Board office. Any such comments are to be returned by the teacher within six (6) working days. The timeline identified herein may be extended by mutual consent in the event that a teacher has received an unsatisfactory rating.
d) Unless otherwise directed by the teacher, notification of a “development needed” or “unsatisfactory” under the Performance Appraisal of New Teachers process shall be provided to the President of the Bargaining Unit within five (5) working days of the teacher having received the unsatisfactory.
e) The Board shall provide a list annually to the President of the Bargaining Unit by no later than the thirtieth (30th) instructional day of the school year identifying the names of the new teachers who have been designated to participate in the Performance Appraisal of New Teachers and the New Teacher Induction Program.
f) The New Teacher Induction Program Strategy Form shall serve as a vehicle for discussion and learning as well as a means of planning, tracking and recording the NTIP induction elements. Teachers shall track their progress and upon completion of the requirements of New Teacher Induction Program shall sign it and forward it to the Principal. The principal shall sign the form when a teacher has received two satisfactory ratings on performance appraisals for new teachers and has completed the New Teacher Induction Program. The principal shall forward a copy of the NTIP strategy form to the designated NTIP Superintendent who shall forward the teachers name to the Ontario College of Teachers.
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM. A non-evaluative professional growth program for a) teachers in their first or second year of their preliminary credential and who must clear their credential as provided by law and b) all teachers in their first or second year in the District regardless of their prior experience. New Teacher Induction entails a series of professional development activities, including but not limited to guided peer observations, collaborative reflection, analysis of student feedback, informational meetings and the development and implementation of Common Core based units or lesson sequences. Details of the Induction Program requirements will be determined for each school year by the Instructional Coaches and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, and expectations will be communicated to New Teachers at the beginning of the school year.
