Probationary Appointment. A Probationary appointment shall be for a two (2) year term if the appointment is at the rank of Librarian I; otherwise it shall be for one (1) year. By exception, the Probationary appointment may be shorter for an appointment at the rank of Librarian III and/or Librarian IV. A Librarian Member holding a Probationary appointment shall be considered for a Continuing appointment in accordance with the provisions of Article 24.
Probationary Appointment. An appointment for a designated period of time during which the probationer is evaluated as a candidate for tenure or permanent status that cannot be dismissed during the term of the appointment without just cause but can be renewed or non-renewed by the Board of Trustees.

Probationary Appointment a) The purpose of a probationary period is mutual appraisal for the Employer and the candidate. Probation does not imply that permanent appointment will inevitably be granted. It does imply that the Employer will give serious consideration to such an appointment. Denial of permanent appointment does not necessarily imply incompetence or even dissatisfaction with the Librarian involved. b) The probationary period for a Librarian will normally be four (4) years. The period of probation may be reduced in certain appointments at the Librarian II, III or IV ranks, if the candidate has held such an appointment at another library, or if the candidate has successfully worked four (4) to six (6) years in another library. Such reduction shall be determined at the time of appointment.
Probationary Appointment. 11.4.1.1 Normally, the first appointment for a regular, RLT and non-regular employee shall be for a two (2) year probationary period. 11.4.1.2 The probationary period shall be waived for a regular employee and for a regular employee who is re-hired within one (1) year and if the following conditions are met: • previously they have satisfactorily completed a probationary period, and • their regular appointment is in the same functional area as the previous probationary position. 11.4.1.3 Having met the conditions in 11.4.1.2, the regular employee shall be on a continuous appointment according to 11.4.2. 11.4.1.4 At least three (3) months prior to the expiry date of the probationary appointment, the employee shall be offered a continuous appointment, or, in the case of less than satisfactory performance judged by criteria set out in 11.5.2, they shall be offered a probationary extension of up to one year or shall be advised that no further appointment offer will be made. 11.4.1.5 When the evaluation during the probationary year results in a probationary extension, alerting and guidance, followed by a further evaluation as set out in 11.5, will be conducted during the extension period.

Probationary Appointment. All persons appointed to fill a vacancy or a newly created administrative staff position shall be given a probationary appointment. The probationary period for all individuals appointed on or after Sept 1, 1995 shall be a minimum of three years and may be extended to a maximum of five years, served in three to five consecutive one-year terms. Staff who begin work on or after September 1 and prior to March 1 of any fiscal year will be considered to have credit for their first year of probationary appointment. Staff who begin work on or after March 1 will have a first year of probation that ends on August 31 of the following fiscal year. Persons who have served the College in a temporary appointment may have the number of years served in a temporary appointment count toward their probationary period in their new appointment to a regular position.
