PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STUDY LEAVE a. The Employer is committed to providing and supporting training and educational opportunities to ensure that Nurse / Midwife Caregivers are able to meet the Employer’s best practice objectives. b. Further staff development can be achieved through a formal course of study at a recognised institution, or developmental activities such as management or executive programs, conferences and seminars. c. Consistent with the above, Nurse / Midwife Caregivers can make application for up to five days paid study leave per year for courses related to work and approved by the Employer. Such leave is not applicable to Casual Nurse / Midwife Caregivers, will not accrue year to year and will be pro-rated for Part-Time Nurse / Midwife Caregivers.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STUDY LEAVE. 27.1. The Employer may grant paid professional development leave of up to 3 days (metropolitan and Peel region) or 4 days (Country) per annum, subject to the proposed development activity / study being relevant to the duties performed by the Employee, the Employee’s qualifications, or the likely duties to be performed by the Employee and the current and emerging needs of the Employer. 27.2. Additional days of leave may be approved by the Employer if requested by the Employee, provided such additional professional development leave would be beneficial to the Employer’s operational requirements. 27.3. The Employer may also elect to pay some or all of course fees associated with the professional development for which leave has been approved.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STUDY LEAVE. (i) Leave for Professional Development and study applies to external courses offered by educational institutions or registered training organisations, conferences, seminars and short courses. Leave of this nature is provided to assist employees to access learning and development opportunities so that the employer has an appropriately trained workforce to meet its service delivery needs. (ii) Leave is not required for in -house courses or activities and any mandatory training and education that are undertaken by employees on a routine basis, and at which employees are considered to be on-duty. The employee whether on duty or off duty shall be paid at the employee’s ordinary rate of pay. (iii) Access to professional development and study leave will be approved on a case by case basis by the General Manager. Documentation will be necessary for approval. Approval will be subject to application and if relevant to the practice and the individual needs of the employee. (iv) The yearly performance appraisal shall identify professional development and training needs of the individual. (v) Leave approved for the purposes of learning activities is to be paid on the basis of the employee’s ordinary rate of pay in accordance with this agreement excluding penalty rates or overtime. (vi) Employees should plan for this leave as far in advance as possible and provide a minimum of one (1) month’s notice.

Each full time employee (pro rata, for part time employee) may make application to Fresh Hope Care in order to access study, examination, conference and professional development leave. Each application will be assessed on its merits in the context of the applicability of the conference/ seminar/ course of study or examination the number of other similar applications and the resources available to Fresh Hope Care. b. In accordance with subclause a. above the employee may apply to Fresh Hope Care in order to access up to 3 days paid leave per year for the purposes of attendance at approved conferences/ seminars and or access to approved studies or leave for examinations. c. The time and manner of taking any such approved leave under this provision is to be mutually agreed between Fresh Hope Care and the employee and the course and means of dissemination of conference/seminar information is to be approved by Fresh Hope Care. d. Reasonable travel, accommodation and registration costs may be paid by the employer, when Fresh Hope Care approves the employee’s attendance at the conference/seminar. e. All staff granted leave will be required to provide an in-service to other staff on the learning from the leave and to provide a report to Fresh Hope Care on the learning’s from the conference/seminar or course of study.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STUDY LEAVE. 3.7.1 Without limiting current Hospital policies and practices, and subject both to prior agreement with the employer and employees’ recognition of mutuality of responsibility for their own professional development, each full-time employee (and pro rata for each part-time employee) shall be entitled to access up to 24 hours paid leave per annum (non-cumulative) for any one, or a combination of, the following professional development purposes: (a) goal-directed short courses of relevance to the employee’s current career responsibilities; (b) attendance at clinical or management skills related conferences and seminars; (c) such other professional development as agreed between the employer and the employee: provided that: (i) The annual entitlement referred to in 3.7 shall be calculated from 1st July to 30th June of each year. For new employees who commence during this period, their entitlement at 30th June shall be determined on a pro-rata basis. (ii) An employee’s access to study leave for professional development and study under this clause is to be recorded by the employer; and (iii) Unless otherwise agreed between an employee and the employer, to access this leave the employee arranges allocation of time to the development activity in such a manner as to enable the employee to contribute at least 50% of the time required for the activity in the employee’s own time on each occasion such leave is accessed.
