Room and Roommate Assignments. The Student may request a room assignment. However, HRE makes no guarantee regarding the Student’s assignment to any HRE Facilities, Room or roommate. HRE reserves the right to make room and roommate assignments as HRE deems necessary. Room assignments may be denied, reassigned or canceled by HRE at its discretion and at any time for reasons of health, safety, discipline, optimization of space or other reasons. Reassignment may include accommodations within the community such as the University Guest House or off-campus hotel. All room assignment changes must be approved in advance by HRE. If the Student changes room assignments without approval from HRE, the Student will be assessed a penalty charge up to $150 and will be required to move back to the assigned Room. No room assignment changes will be allowed during the first two weeks and/or last two weeks of each semester, unless specifically authorized.

If selection is not made during the Student’s designated time (which will be communicated to Student via email), then HRL will make room and roommate assignments for the Student as it deems appropriate. HRL will exercise its reasonable efforts to honor Resident’s request with regard to preference of Room, roommate, and building but does not guarantee assignment to particular building, types of accommodation, specific Rooms or apartment, roommate, or single Room. HRL reserves the right to change or cancel assignments as it deems appropriate in the interest of order, health, safety, effective space utilization, to accommodate staffing and Room usage in the interest of HRL, unresolvable incompatibility of roommates, or discipline, with notice to the extent reasonably practicable under the circumstances. Resident agrees that failure to be assigned to Resident’s preferred assignment request does not release Resident from their obligations under this Agreement. Resident may request a Room change through the process outlined in the HRL Community Guide. Effort will be made to assign students as roommates who have designated mutual requests for each other on their Application for Housing. Students who do not designate a roommate request will be assigned roommates on the basis of all information listed without regard to race, color, creed, or religion. All assignments are made by priority according to the date each student’s completed application and dorm deposit are received by the College Housing Office. If all residence halls are full, the applicant will be informed. The College reserves the right to determine room and residence hall assignments and to consolidate vacancies. TEMPORAY ASSIGNMENT ACCOMODATIONS: At the beginning of each semester, occupancy may be expanded through the assignment of students to study rooms, recreational rooms, and “tripling” of what are normally double-occupancy rooms. New students assigned to permanent spaces as well as returning residence hall students should be prepared to be assigned a third roommate and may not know until their arrival that a temporary assignment has been placed in their room. Temporary assignment spaces are used until regular double occupancy room accommodations become available, which may be the entire semester. Students who accept over assignment accommodations are bound by all provisions of this contract.
